Summary: A Remarkable Novel
Review: Contemporary fiction just doesn't get any better then this!! It's the type of book that makes you stop reading and shake your head, shocked by the insights you've encountered. In short, you'll be undone.
Dolores Price is a character few people will soon forget. Wally Lamb so beautifully captures the life of this women. At times beautiful, shocking, and scary, but always unforgetable. I truly felt my life flash in my eyes as I read this novel. I didn't always relate to exactly what Dolores Price went through, but I still felt a connection. At times I cried for her, others I wanted to slap her, for her unsympathic and cruel ways to certain people. This character that a man created was so finely intuned with what women go through, I had a hard time trying to convince myself that a women did not write this book. This book deserves to be opened up and read again and again, because it is hard to shut her up once you've finished reading.

Summary: All done up and some place to go
Review: Dolores Price begins her story in 1956, the day a free television is delivered. When you look up "weirdo" in the dictionary, you will undoubtedly see a picture of poor Dolores. Her parents are nuts jobs and almost everyone she knows is a total jerk. I will echo what many have said before me - there's no way a man wrote this book, I mean why would he even want to? It's an amazing journey into the heart and mind of a tormented female soul. You laugh out loud and feel like crying while you read it. At times I was downright angry and felt haunted when I put it down. I wish it had ended a bit differently, but all in all I would call this book absolutely stellar. I'm already on to his much longer tome, I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE. I can tell it's going to be even better. I've never been so captivated by a writer's style. Would also recommend BARK OF THE DOGWOOD by Jackson McCrae for another equally disturbing and well-written book.

Summary: What's so great about it?
Review: I did not enjoy She's Come Undone.
Many parts of the novel really amused me, some parts made me ache so much for Delores, but my dominant feeling was the novel was distaste.
I've read much literature on similar subject matter--coming of age, adolescene, rape, divorce, self-esteem, ill-mental health, disfunctional families, sexism, etc., and in this way, She's Come Undone is well done; the novel discusses the subjects with sensitivity.
However, Dolores' behaviour disgusted too much. Yes, having the problems she did with her family, her rape, and social life, of course she should not be expected to be Superwoman--strong and resilient, able to take on anything. Yet the fact that she regressed constantly to a low state was disappointing. Sometimes, I would think she was learning, moving on, and then she would take two steps back. Her viewpoint was so negative. Some of the the things that happened to her (e.g., Dante) disgusted me so much; *she* brought some of these things upon herself.
In many ways, I must agree that She's Come Undone is a excellent work. However, throughout my reading, I thought that it was meant to be an uplifting story, but by the end, I was apathetic about Dolores' self-actualization.

Summary: excellent
Review: I found myself feeling lost after I finished this book. I kept wanting to learn what was going on now in Doloreses life! This book will make you laugh, whince, shake your head, and most of all...it will make you cry. I think the most fascinating thing about it, is that it was written by a man! EXCELLENT read.

Summary: READ THIS BOOK!
Review: I just finished this book only a few minutes ago and I absolutely loved it! I'm in college and have very little to for my own reading in the midst of reading for school. This is the first book I picked up since my semester ended and I'm glad I chose it. I think every young woman can relate to Dolores, whether the issues are the same or not. One does not have to be overweight to feel Dolores' pain of being alone; everyone has felt that at least once in their lives. We all have moments when we feel as if our lives are spinning in a negative direction and I feel like Dolores Price's story is inspiring to anyone and everyone who has ever felt as if they could no longer go on. "She's Come Undone: is a story of a girl becoming a woman who struggles through life and finds the courage to fight the battle, no matter how hard it gets. There were many times when she almost gave up, but there was always a drive inside her that kept her going. I reccomend this book to everyone because we can all relate to the rocky road of life even if we may not be able to relate our issues as closely to Dolores'. This book is a page-turner; I'm just about to start Wally Lamb's other novel, "I Know This Much is True."

Summary: Great writing, captivating story....depressing.
Review: I picked up this book recently and once I started it I couldn't put it down. This book is written exceptionally well, and the characters and story flow smoothly and realistically. I was stunned when I realized it was not an autobiography, and was written by a man! The first person voice of a female is quite convincing. I was more than impressed with the writing and the story. Any book that can evoke emotions like this does, is worth looking into.

That said, should you read this book? It depends. All of the highlights above are true, but, sadly the overall effect is depressing. I kept waiting for the situation to improve, for the story to pick up, for the victim mentality to end. It doesn't.

I gave the book 3 stars, 5 for writing, and 1 for the investment of several hours into what proved to be a draining and disturbing look into the life of a troubled young woman. I liken the experience to waking up from a bad dream, and feeling the lingering effects into the day. Your call as to whether you wish to jump on board and go along for the ride.

Summary: very good
Review: I really enjoyed this book because of the journey it took me on. Rarely does a book put me completely in someone else's shoes living and breathing in their world. It spans almost 40 years into the life of Dolores Price. From a girl to a woman with all the issues of today inbetween like rape, obesity, marriage, divorce, AIDS, friendship, love, death, and last but not least laughter. The topics are mixed together with a wit and satire that I absolutely loved... I hope this review helped you

Summary: Excellent book!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It's told from the perspective of a young girl, Dolores Price, tracing her life from the time of her parent's divorce when she was around 13 til when she's in her 30s. She has had a difficult life with endless ill luck but we get to observe Dolores really grow as a person over the years and triumph in the end.

One of the central issues is Dolores' weight. Since the abuse by a family friend, Dolores tries to drown her problems by vegetating in front of the TV and consuming a steady diet of snacks bought for her by her mother. She has no social life because her peers are extremely cruel to her.

Lamb examines issues such as society's scorn of overweight people and gays, the effects of divorce on children and the impact of rape. After years of therapy Dolores is able to deal with her past and her relationships with her family.

What is also amazing is that Lamb so realistically tells the story in the voice of a young girl. I would recommend this book to anyone! A very engrossing read.

Summary: Didn't Like the Ending
Review: I thought this was definitely an engaging read. I was hooked from the very first page. I, too, was amazed at Lamb's ability to deal with Dolores Price so realistically since he was a male. I thought the general "morals of the story" that were being made throughout were poignant and the points were well-taken. It was engaging enough that I would read it again to pick up on the themes I missed the first time around.

The thing I didn't like about it was how the story began to unravel in the last 200 pages. It felt very rushed and to me was unbelievable. From the point that she gets a certain someone's address and goes to find that certain someone, the story did not seem to be as believable as it was before. Come to think of it, in general, I thought the major transitions in the story could have been done a bit better. I also thought some of the characters and subplots were not as fully developed as they could have been. It became almost a replay of the movie Forrest Gump at the end.

I picked up the book because it was an Oprah Book Club selection in the past. I could clearly see why because of the themes in the story. I would recommend the book because I think those themes are issues with which everyone should grapple, however, I just longed for a better story at the end even though the story I read kept me hooked.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I cannot stop reading this book
Review: If I had to write a list of my all time favorites, She's Come Undone would be at the very top. I've read it ..hmm... around 20 times. Let me introduce you to Dolores Price. She is the epitome of teenage geekism-she's fat, she's unpopular. She will lead you through her journey of losing a mother, rape, college, lesbian action, suicide, abortion, a mental hospital, and finally happiness. You will laugh. You will cry. You will love Dolores. Read all of Wally Lamb- you really can't go wrong.
