Rating: Summary: Update Review: Having finished out the term using this new edition, I would like to update my review with some additional comments. While I still find that the previous seventh edition was a more thorough, comprehensive book, I do understand the author's reasoning in updating this textbook. I was contacted by the publishers and was able to supply them with a more detailed evaluation of the book. Once the changes are made and the errors corrected for the second printing, I believe that this book will be a valuable addition to any curriculum. The simple and straight-forward manner in which the math is presented enables the students to more easily understand the material. Of the hundreds of textbooks I have evaluated, I do find "Math for Meds" to be the best suited for the needs of my students. While I still think the old book was better, I am not so inflexible that I can't adapt to the new. And speaking of the new, what would top this book off is a computer CD with study questions which correspond with the chapters in the book. Maybe in the ninth edition, hum?

Rating: Summary: IF IT ISN'T BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT! Review: Having taught from the seventh edition of this textbook for over five years in my clinical math classes, I was dismayed to find that it was no longer available. It was an excellent textbook. I have been using this newer edition for the past two weeks and am very disappointed in it. A lot of the important information has been omitted from the book and it is full of errors. It is difficult enough trying to teach these students math without having to deal with an inferior book. I've had to supplement with other materials just to cover the basics that I feel the students need. I never had to do that with the seventh edition. The former edition was wonderful! Why the authors and/or publishers felt the need to change it, I will never understand. If you have a good product, you leave it alone. I do not like this new edition and will be finding a replacement for it as soon as possible.
