Rating: Summary: Dissapointed Review: Although the content of this text is acceptable (some chapters could have more detail), and the illustrations are superb, other areas are a bit dissapointing. The construction of this text is very poor, the ink that is used smudges at the lightest touch, the pages are not cut squarely, and the hardcover is poorly glued. The accompanying CD was a huge dissapointment. The quiz section did not work, and entire answer options were missing during the exam phase. Additionally, the drag and drop diagrams are very vague, with arrows pointing to inaccurate regions of the body. For the money, purchasing separate Anatomy and Physiology texts would be a better choice.
Rating: Summary: I found the book to be pretty decent. Review: Dr. sandra Grabowski (the author of the book) is my anatomy teacher at Purdue University. Although the book does have some excellent graphics and visual enhancements in all of the crucial areas of anatomy, the actual explanation of the material is rather weak and ambiguous. There isn't much clinical or experimental information, aside from simple definitions of disorders. I believe that the book would be better served by more elaborate explanations of key concepts in the text as opposed to filling the book cover to cover with pretty pictures. In my opinion, this makes the book ineligible to be a trusty reference. The blanks need to be filled in by the authors, and this would be an excellent improvement for the ninth edition.
Rating: Summary: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 9th Edition Review: I loved this book it is my bible. I found it the most comprehensive guide that I have ever read. The only thing that other books have over it is the CD-Rom could be a little more interactive and more helpful. But the book rocked. It has that ablity to take you from the basis of all knowledge of this field of study and slowly and carfully unfold the knowledge in just the right way that it establishes it in your mind forever. I loved it and look forward to using it in other ways not just in class.
Rating: Summary: Wearing out my highlighter! Review: I think this book is very easy to understand and there are several modes used to clarify the same information as not everyone learns the same way. Some are word oriented, some pictures, some graphs, etc..this textbook is impressive in this regard. I really like the clinical applications! I was dissapointed by the CD and really found it a waste of time so I have only used it one time..I just regard it as a freebie like a fancy bookmark. The accompanying lab manual is beneficial as it covers much of the same material but in non-repetetive ways. I will probably keep this book as a reference as opposed to selling it back when the course is done.
Rating: Summary: Excellent introductory text Review: In response to the last review, any text book titled "Principles of Anatomy & Physiology" was never meant to be exhaustive. This textbook merely endeavors to skim the surface and provide a basic understanding of a very broad discipline. (Read the Preface). No book can plumb the depths of every human physiological system AND its clinical applications in 1000 pages. (But if one exists, I'd sure like to know about it!) In terms of presenting the introductory information I think the authors have done a great job. I admire the excellent design layout and the numerous visuals. I don't think there can be too many visuals in a book that attempts to introduce complex concepts to those who would be unfamiliar with them. And as a reference book, these make it pretty easy to locate information.
Rating: Summary: Great book for anyone taking college anatomy and Physiology Review: My study group and I used this book for our college anatomy and physiology classes. We found that the text was quite easy to comprehend and the pictures of muscles was very clear and precise. We also used the following 3 books when we were preparing for our midterm and final exams. Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1 (ISBN; O971999619) Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627) Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology (ISBN: 0971999694)Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: (Volume 1 and Volume 2) are outstanding study guides. It showed us the kind of questions to prepare for when we took our exams. We saw many of the type of questions asked on our exams from studying these study guides. Also, Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology focused on the key ideas asked on the exams. I guess this is why me and my study group all got over 90 averages in our classes. This was our exact study plan. First, read important stuff in Tortora's textbook to get a really good understanding of A and P. For the test, we prepared heavy by studying the last 3 books described and using Tortora's book as a reference.
Rating: Summary: Great book for anyone taking college anatomy and Physiology Review: This book is outstanding. It has the most informations you need to know about human A & P. The book also encloses interactive CDS for learning. The book and the CDs rock educationally. I never have doubts about the authors and the information because the book is super professional and educational. I LOVE THE BOOK AND THE INTERACTIVE CDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One book, many publishers Review: This book is recommended for taking your national massage board exams. I have found it to be a wonderful book and very easy to follow throughtout the chapters. It is very detailed and full of information.
Rating: Summary: Anatomy and Physiology student Review: This is the finest of all available books on Anatomy and physiology. The text is clear and easy to understand. The pictures easy on the eye and help to simplify the complex subjects covered. Scattered throughout the book are 'clinical correlates' which relate chapter information to 'real life' medical problems. These correlates help to integrate the information presented. The book contains clear histology slides and occasional pictures of cadaver dissections. The treatment of subjects is thorough including, for example, dysrhythmias in the chapter on cardiac anatomy and physiology. Accompanying the book is an atlas of the skeleton. Bright colors are used in all of the pictures and flow charts. The table of contents is thorough, clearly dividing up each chapter. I would Reccomend Tortora and Grabowski's A&P textbook for a two semester course in anatomy and physiology. This is a review of the 8th edition
Rating: Summary: If you are studying Anatomy, this may be the book for you Review: This really is a very good book. He really explains things very well. The chapters are layed out in a logical order and there are quizes and questions along the way. The book is well written too. I would recommend this book to a student, but it wouldn't be my first recommendation. There are others like Marieb & Martini that I like because the style of writing isn't quite as dry as Tortora. It still is an excellent book though. One of the best.
