Summary: Library Handbook for Organic Chemists-Critical Review
Review: Super book! A must have for all organic chemists.

The book begins with a search orientation table to help the reader find the correct reference source. You can find answers to such questions as: "Which reference is best for finding reviews?" "What are some dictionaries I can use for translation?" Where do I find all the papers that reference a particular author?" The bulk of the book contains summaries, indexes, and internet links associated with many primary chemical literature sources. This section cantains many "Indexes to Table of Contents." For example, Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds does not have a comprehensive index. The index to the table of contents of Rodd's in the Handbook is an easy way to find information in this important source. There is a complete listing of Patai's books on functional groups with call numbers. The section on Theilheimer's Synthetic Methods of Organic Chemistry has an index of reactions and their requisite systematic classification (those funny looking terms). The index to the table of contents of Houben-Weyl is helpful since the early volumes are in German. The Journals section lists all important organic journals with call numbers and internet links. The Patents section lists internet links to most of the patent sites throughout the world. There are useful internet links and printed sources in the Internet Resources,Dictionaries, and Purchasing Chemicals sections.

The last part of the Handbook contains an index to all the review articles published in Synthesis and Tetrahedron.

With the Library Handbook for Organic Chemists in your possession, you will find your way through the library in half your usual time and will leave certain that you have checked all the possible literature sources.
