Summary: Not for the light-hearted
Review: I was required to use this text for my graduate courses in Quantum Mechanics. It is by far the worst text on the subject I have ever had the misfortune of using. Hecht's presentation of subject matter is disorganized and often incoherent. His ability to explain with any amount of clarity even the most elementary principles is lacking at best, and his command of the English language is absolutely appalling for someone of his education. The author claims that this book is "self-contained and can be used by students without a previous course in quantum mechanics." Don't believe it! This text may be useful for someone who has already taken a few grauate courses in quantum mechanics, but is utterly useless for learning purposes. Hecht should be ashamed of himself for writing such a waste of paper, and I will slap the man if I ever meet him.

Summary: Pretty good book for advanced readers
Review: It is definitely not for beginners. You should have some background in QM before starting on this book. Takes a bit long to read through because the concepts are deep and are not explicitly explained. But, it really helps the thinking process. It covers each topic deeper than most of the books. The problems at the end of each chapter require special mention. Overall, it helps one to apply QM to wide and deep range of problems in theoretical physics (not to be confused with applied QM books that can be used only for applied physics or engineering problems)
