Rating: Summary: Proof that readers of Science Fiction need to grow up Review: A completely boring, useless book. That it has become a classic proves that most readers of Science Fiction have no idea of what good writing is all about.
Rating: Summary: revolutionary Review: william gibson is one of those authors whose early works now seem cliched, not because they are, but because they created the chiches we live with today. neuromancer is foundational cyberpunk. not to mention one of the best books i've ever read. the entire trilogy was a marvel, but neuromancer was and is a classic.
Rating: Summary: i hate william gibson Review: i'm with the reader from "middle america". true cyberpunk is rudy rucker. gibson is worse than a bad 80's movie and as such is fraught with all the typical cliches. nothing revolutionary happened here. stephen king meets total recall. BOORRINNGG.
Rating: Summary: Mind blowing Review: I've read, and re-read this book, and it still remains my favorite. Mr. Gibson's view of the future is refreshingly non-naieve. An incredible work of written art.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece plagued by a dragging storyline Review: This novel, simply put, is a masterpiece of literature. Written in a wonderous, constant technological sort of prose, the amount of work and creativity placed into the words on each and every page is astounding. My only complaint regarding this book is it's storyline, which, though well worked in for the type of writing, drags at times and leads to all-too-frequent misunderstandings regarding the terms and lingo of Gibson's world.
Rating: Summary: The best cyberpunk book... Review: This is the real cyberpunk. It's hard, it's cool, it's hi-tech. If you want to know cyberpunk, read this!
Rating: Summary: Grand, Impressive, Magnificent, IMPOSING, Splendid, MAJESTIC Review: William Gibson's Opus, simply put. This book won the Hugo, Nebula and Philip K. Dick Awards. This by itself is no easy task. I was blown away with his descriptive cyber-punk version of Hell/Heaven/Whateverliesinthe between. Here's a warning for uninitated of the cyber-world, those with an incredibly LOW vocabulary, and medicore imaginary skills. This book isn't for you. It's only for those who are willing to re-read each sentence at least 3 to 4 times to fully understand the implication of his world. I have only read the book once, but I've had to re-read almost every other sentence 5 times (so technically I read the book 5 times. .:-) I had consult my 'net dictionary, and brush up on the 'net jargons to be fully immersed in that way. The end result is a world that I would have never imagined otherwise by simply rapidly reading it and not really "taking the time to smell the roses". To those naysayers who complain about his descriptive world, lighten up. . .just because you don't have the cranial capability to actually comprehend William Gibson's world doesn't give you the right to disregard it. To those who are willing to taste his world, GIVE IT TRY! It's an ADVENTURE I promise you , that you won't ever forget. Thanks Akeem, for referring me to that book.
Rating: Summary: Great cyberpunk from the master! Review: This is, indeed, an excellently written book. It's difficult to miss Gibson's heartful, chic, mindbendingly poetic wording, how his words flow in a sheer sea of mind-altering cyber-induced electricity! I love the way he wrote this book--he made you feel the dark, technology-beset, cyber-LSD-laced, futuristic environment; he made you feel Case's addictions, Riviera's insanity, Molly's lethality, and he made you feel Cyberspace. He forced you to experience everything with his artful prose. The ABSOLUTE ONLY reason that I gave Mr. Gibson four stars instead of five for this cool techno novel is because, even in his masterful writing, the plot was rather difficult to follow. Yeah, I understood Case and the rest of the characters, the amoral society, the dark techno-ridden, corporate-run urban future, but I found it hard to understand what was actually going on, what the story was. So many elements of the plot were hard to catch. Other than this, however, his writing is beautiful! (Language is rather vulgar, though).
Rating: Summary: This book is terrible!!!!! Review: Anyone interested in becoming familiar with the Cyberpunk genre should not read this book. Gibson trys to place to much information in an already confusing world. A novice sci-fi reader would be lost in all the information. Definitley not what was suspected. Anyone who wants to read real cyberpunk should read Rudy Rucker.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Review: When I first read it, it went over my head. I read it again and... it's strange, but I can't think of how to describe it without using either the most ridiculous superlatives or the most over-the-top images and words (icy, crystalline, searing, brilliant, stunning, wonderful). It's not an easy novel to get into. But it is so worth the journey. The storyline is not as brilliant as general concensus would have it, but it's the images that stay in your mind. The words are convoluted, but perfect.
