Summary: Great beginning, but loses steam
Review: Like someone else aready wrote, the first 150 pages are beyond description--some of the best fiction I've ever read in ANY genre. But, Stephenson lets the second half degenerate horribly into Mack Bolan-esque shootouts and way too much discussion on Sumerian myths and culture. Its a decent read.

Summary: Better than Ice Cream in the Summer
Review: I tell ya what, after reading this great book "Snow Crash", my life is almost complete. I live in Maryland and the other day i visited California. But what was most interesting is how the book progresses from Slow cyberpunk to Fast cyberpunk. I mean, who could resist stopping at the hot dog stand to buy that nice, juicy hot dog with ketchup and mustard and relish? Certainly not me no sir. And out of no where, Hiro's got a crazy psycho ninja sword! Who could have guessed that the little dog would be get hit by the baseball, i mean, I didn't know i had that good of aim. So buy this book cause it's really good and it's good.

Summary: It's a book
Review: It's a book. You know, it has pages, and words. Some of them i didn't understand. But it definatly is a book. I'd rather "read" porn, but this'll have to do i guess. I'd like to "read" and article on Y.T. somewhere. If anyone knows of any sites or books with this, would you please email them to me? Thank you.

Summary: Odd, fun, and compelling
Review: This is one of the odder books I've ever read- it starts sounding very much like a goofball Douglas Adams take on the Cyberpunk genre, and morphs slowly into a philosophical thriller. That's good- the large amounts of history and philosophy might be too dry without it. Nevertheless, it's a fun romp, and worth the price of the paperback.

Summary: Taught me more about the USA than a million guide books.
Review: I reluctantly purchased this book minutes before an international airflight & could not put it down. Stephenson has extrapolated a world that fills you with fear, fury and in the end, a sense of futility when you realise that, in reality, we are already there. Remember to smile for the cameras when you visit your next "community development project".

A "Post-Apocalyptic" novel that forgot to have an Apocalypse?

At first, I questioned Stephenson's continuity skills. The ages of his characters, thier progenators and the possibility to enact the evolutionary developments in society seemed too far fetched. Now I think that the novels continuity issues are the hand brake that makes you consider; "Well, is this where we are headed?"

All in all a truly special book that leaves you wanting more Stephenson, more Hiro Protaganist and much, much more PIZZA!

Summary: The most imaginatively cool book EVER.
Review: I was surfing Amazon, com looking at the top selling Sci-Fi books, and I found something strange: a book called Snow Crash, released in 1993, that was #7. I figured, "no way." I read the summaries, saw that the main character's name was Hiro Protagonist, and bought it immediately.

It didn't dissapoint.

It truly wove everything from hacker mentality to the almost universal myth of a fall from paradise to Sumerian culture into a universally well-written book that astounded me about three times a page. The first chapter alone justifies the 7 bucks. Buy it, NOW.

Summary: lot's of bull (pizza-university?!),some interesting thoughts
Review: When I started reading this book (with all the great reviews in mind) it really disappointed me. Universities dedicated to pizza's ? The book contains some interesting ideas about the future, though. Like the virtual world we'll live in (matrix-like) and all. This got me more enthousiastic later. All in all I wouldnt advice anybody to buy it, just go see the Matrix.

p.s. It's written in 1992, ('pre-internet time-period').

Summary: My favorite book--ever.
Review: I read this book regularly. It defines so much of my world view. In my opinion one of the best visions of Los Angeles ever, and one of the greatest science fiction novels ever written. This book is required reading, without a doubt.

Summary: the first happy cyberpunk book, ever
Review: Snow Crash is the first example of positive cyberpunk I have seen, Hiro & YT are both (for a change) the best at what they do. A sk8er and a swordsman, this is how we all wanted our shadow run charecters to be. the book is a non-stop trip told in the hardcore techno-jive we all want to speak. People have a problem with the boring middle section about linguistics but this is one of the most educational plotlines I have ever read. Anyone who thinks it's all rubbish should consider the effect porn stories have on the body. Words can affect you without real meaning. Plus, this book is action-packed, it holds interest & attention like no other. The charecters & settings are all the best of cyberpunk dreams. "up until the age of 25 all males think they still have time to become the baddest motherf--ker in the world" How real is that! This is the first time cyberpunk has been the triumphant cheer it should always've been. Check it.

Summary: Gasp... Choke... I want to be Hiro Protagonist.
Review: Snow Crash has to be the best book I have ever read. Mere words cannot describe how fantastic this book is. It is as good the fifth time as it is the first. Hiro Protagonist is my new god.
