Rating: Summary: With great power comes great responsibility Review: The orphan pug, once apprentice to the magician Kulgan, is taken from his home to another world, Kelewan, as a slave along with his boyhood friend Thomas. It is then a great order of wizards called the Black Robes discover the potential of pug's abilities and teaches his the order. Now called Milamber, he learns of a great evil that is eager to destroy the world he now serves, and his distant home world Medkemia. One of the best novels I have read of this nature. The plots are very deep and rich. You follow main characters from boyhood to maturity and bond with them as they continue their adventures. Get lost in a world of ancient magics, evils, gods, and noble deeds.
Rating: Summary: Even better! Review: In this sequel to Magician: Apprentice, we begin to see the effects that the great war between worlds is having. Pug, now a slave on Kelewan, has his talent recognized, and he begins his training in the art of magic. Thomas, wearing the armor of the long dead Velheru, Ashen-Shugar, becomes one of the greatest warriors of his age, but at what cost? Both the Tsurani Empire and the Kingdom are cracking under the strain, and it is up to someone to end the war. This book is a great sequel to Magician: Apprentice, and is even better than that book! This book is sprinkled with high sorcery, fantastic creatures, and exciting battles. If you liked the first book of this series, then you will absolutely love this book! I highly recommend these books to any (and every!) fan of fantasy literature.
Rating: Summary: Amazing book! Review: This is one of the most amazing books I've read.. I've now completed the entire Riftwar Saga, and I can proclaim without doubt that this series surpases every other book in its category, including LOTR, Harry Potter, wheel of time etc. The story is beautifully weaved with enough details, intricacy and magic to satisfy even the most demanding of readers.. This is the first book I've read that has actually gone into depths about topics such as the nature of magic, concepts of time and space etc... A definite must-read!
Rating: Summary: Ok, but not nearly as good as the first book in the series Review: I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book in this series, Magician: Apprentice, and was hoping for more of the same out of this book. However, I found that I didn't enjoy this nearly as much. I thought this book was a little too light on actual plot and spent too much time on the mystical transformation of Pug into Milamber, Tsurani Great One. If you liked the first book in the series, you'll probably want to read this one as well, but don't expect it to be as good.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I agree with the last review. This was better than Magician:Apprentice. It played around with what was right and what was wrong, and it didn't have slightly too much action like Apprentice.Tomas and Pug both end up doing what they know is right ,both pressured in different ways. It made sense to me that Pug should go for Katala intstead of Carline.Carline wasn't amazingly nice to him. The magic was at its best in this book.Pug used all different elements ,and his training was fascinating and different.Overall ,I loved it. Pug has been a slave for several years in Kelewan. As soon as a Tsurani wizard finds that he has magic,Pug loses his memory ,and earns a new name:Milamber. He is trained for wizardry by the wizard that tooks his memory ,and told that his memory will return in his training. But also ,he must learn that he is not Tsurani(he has forgatten his heritage)and that the Tsurani's doings are wrong. Meanwhile,Tomas ,the dwarves, and the elves, are desperatelly fighting against the Tsurani.Tomas soon realizes that the Sword of Ashen-Shugar that he bears is taking over him.He desperately struggles with the sword,as well as the Tsurani. Feist fans must read this(after Magician:Apprentice.
Rating: Summary: not a master Review: feist invests a lot in making the character's personality, at this he may be one of the greatest masters. but the plot? the seemingly invincible people are turned into fractions fighting each other. there is not enough old fashioned action here. i expected much more. there's just a lot of the character's reactions as they walk around trying to fulfill whatever's expected of them. their adventure is never really that interesting. feist is uninventive, taking a little bit here, a little bit there.
Rating: Summary: Even Better than Magician: Apprentice Review: Magician: Apprentice is already a good book but now Part 2 of the RiftwarSaga breaks all records
Rating: Summary: Thrilling second chapter in the Riftwar saga Review: In Magician: Master, Raymond Feist continues the story begun in Apprentice. The so-called "Riftwar" continues, and we find both Pug and Tomas (the two main characters from Apprentice) drastically changed. Both gain great powers in this book, and both began to develop into powerful forces to be reckoned with. The intrigue in this book lies in that the story is told in both worlds, and from both sides. Being a slave of the Tsurani, Pug learns their ways, and makes many friends among them. True to Feist's style, there are so many prominent characters that it's hard to keep track of them all, yet each character is well-developed. This is definitely a page-turner, with the story taking so many curves that it is impossible to anticipate. This is far from your normal, run-of-the-mill fantasy, this is a truly enthralling story. When I began reading this book, I became so involved in the story that I couldn't put it down, and finished the book in less than two days. This is a great fantasy novel, and a thrilling conclusion to Apprentice. The story, of course, continues for two more books, Silverthorn and Darkness at Sethanon, but the war effectively ends here. Feist is a very able storyteller, one that will keep you involved from cover to cover.
Rating: Summary: All praise the king Review: Having read multitudes of fantasy works I still have to say that Magician is still my all time favourite. I have reread it countless times and still love it. I think all the other reviews sum up the book very well so all I can do is add my 5 star rating to the mix. Magician is the beginning of a great adventure. Buy it now, but be prepared to fork out more cash to by the many sequels..all of which are definately worth it.
Rating: Summary: I am not worthy... I am not worthy... Review: All the praises to Raymond E. feist who continue to excite me book after book beyond the wildest dream. To all who haven't read this book: IT IS NOT TO LATE! This magnificant story contains it whole - exciting plot, wonderfull characters and a thrilling imagination of the author. In fact - the whole series of the world of mikdemia is recommanded. Once you started... there is no turning back.
