Summary: As good as Snow Crash, but not as long...
Review: Loved it! I read this between SC and DA, and rate it more fun than SC, but not as complex. Much better than DA, which I thought was self-indulgent drivel.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Brilliant!
Review: Amazing!

I found this book to be better than Snow Crash, and a LOT better than The Diamond Age.

Very entertaining, with a lot of amusing sequences about the chemical industry.

At points I found myself laughing so hard I started a coughing fit.

'nuff said.

Summary: A lot of fun
Review: This book isn't particularly deep. Its protagonist is a cynical jerk. But DAMN, is this book fun! It takes off like a rocket a few chapters in and just doesn't stop. Of course, it helps if you know an aging Hippie type who talke JUST LIKE Sangamon Taylor. I can imagine the voice of this guy with every line of the book I read, it's like a built-in special effect. I also learned something about organic chemistry and ecology, although I have no idea how much of the science in the book is legit and how much was made up for plot purposes. Don't expect "Snow Crash" and you'll probably enjoy this a lot.

Summary: My favourite NS
Review: OK, _Snow Crash_ caught my attention. But it suffered (imho) from grandiosity -- the need for a Great Cosmic Plot Resolution. DA was even more interesting but has some of the same disease -- the themes get so big they are unwieldy. Same goes for the voudun stuff in Gibson, if you ask me.

_Zodiac_ is my pick of NS's work. I buy used copies and give them away to people. It's better than his later works because he's on his own turf, writing more tightly and realistically about stuff he really knows. The manuscript glitters with one-liners; I sometimes slowed down and read whole sections out loud to myself to get the full enjoyment out of them.

Sangamon Taylor, ego and all, has become one of the most memorable characters of my long SF-guzzling career. I recommend this book to sci fi and non-sci-fi readers alike. I still don't believe you can punch a hole in a zode with a wired tazer, but I love the book anyway :-)

And yes, it's a cautionary tale. It has a moral message. So has Dickens, most of Shakespeare, and most of Star Trek for that matter. There's nothing wrong with preaching if it's done with wit, style, and real passion. I think NS pulls it off. If I didn't dread sequels so much, I'd love to see a volume of the prior, or continuing, adventures of ST.

Summary: Must read for environmentalists and non-enviros alike!
Review: Not only did this book open my eyes to a whole world of pollution going on right under my nose, but it made me re-think my whole approach to fighting pollution, all while being fun as hell. My only complaint was that it was so good I read it too fast.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: So good, I'm thinking of repurchasing it and reading it ag'n
Review: The other reviews have said it all. But I wanted to add my 5 stars, in hopes that the cumulative score will raise up from 4 to 5. :o) Read it! Just, read it! I couldn't get past the Deliverator part of Snow Crash--which, btw, was extremely original and funny, or the first few chapters of Diamond Age, but this book cooks!!!

Summary: excellantly odd
Review: I dont read much. This i found very entertining, but the first 5 or 6 chapters NOTHING happened. I was convinced that the whole book would be that way. when it got excitingly more increaingly interesting. There was only one disturbing thing: for a thriller...the ending was all a little too "lived happily ever after". In other words-it had no kicker at the end to scare you, for the book was scary in the best of ways.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best books I own!
Review: Ok, this book is about ecology, toxic waste, biotechnology and that irritating geek who always thought he knew more than you. A witty, thought provoking tale that has aged well. I found a copy in my library, and enjoyed it so much, I actually went out and bought a copy of my own. This is a ripper of a tale, but if you know any biology or chemistry, you'll love this book even more! I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Summary: Witty, Charming, A real kick to the Coccyx!
Review: I was amused initially, then dragged bodily into this romping, rollicking tale of a "granola James Bond." Stephenson shows his writing ability even in his sophomore effort. Though the characters may have been just slightly two dimensional, give this guy a break: he is hyper-plausible. Suspension of disbelief is not neccesary, and the dark humor really compliments this book's plot. He is able to weave a trancelike state over you throughout the book, so be a good little eco-warrior and give this book a read. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: A good book, as long as you don't like seafood
Review: This was the second of Neal's books I read, and quite enjoyed it. The people, places, and story have a life-like quality that seems lost in a great deal of scifi works of late. Recentcy and a little fear combine to make this book jump to life and look at how true this could be.
