Rating: Summary: EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Just as true to life as Silver star and a great follow-up after the CDUs at Normandy. This book follows the paths of a group of UDT "frogmen"(a name they resent) made by a trail of tenacity, bravery, and blood in the Pacific war from Saipan through Iwo Jima and Okinawa to the surrender aboard the Missouri. So real you have to stop and remember it's a fiction novel
Rating: Summary: Good Historical Military Fiction Review: The actual author is William Keith. He has over 60 published novels, many under pen names. He is an outstanding author of military fiction and science fiction. His recent works in the Bolo series (published under his own name) combine the two.
Rating: Summary: Good, but some material weighed my patience Review: This book is the story of the early Navy SEALS, starting in World War II. Many of the scenes are very exciting, especially the end, which takes place on D-Day, storming the beach at Normandy. But, some of this book still bothered me. Much of the non-action parts of this book were entertaining, but some of it seemed false, and tedious. Also, some of the dialouge seemed fake, like real people don't talk like that. There were also descriptions of actual battles during the war discussed by Riker in the novel. I don't know if he was accurate or not, but at times it almost sounded like he was making it up. But, this book was all around a good read, and I will read the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: extremely well-written; true-to-life, blood-and-guts action! Review: This book shows the first generation of SEALs with the first NCDU and UDT in WWII. It's a book about camaraderie, spirit, and bravery of the men who fought and sometimes died in units that typically sustained 50-90% casualties on missions. It is incredibly well-written and shows the true face of war and what these men faced.
A lot of people see war as being glory and honor and courage and everything goes as planned. It never is. The men who are most affected are right here in this novel. Pick it up and read it unless you can't handle the truth
