Summary: Nice book, but I've read better
Review: My header more or less says it all: the book starts out very quickly, flows together and ends pretty much with a bang. I've read the original Dark Horse series that this novel is based on and it's interesting to see a novel that expands upon the work that was done there.

You don't have to be a fan of the Predator series to like this novel as it's a nice, quick scifi/action romp in the best tradition of the movies.

Summary: Nice read, very fast-paced and true to the franchise.

Summary: a disappointment after the first book
Review: Predator: Cold War caught my eye because it was a Predator book and I am a Predator fan. I was also pleased to see it was written by Nathan Archer, whose work on the previous Predator novel I had enjoyed. The biggest thing that hooked me, though, was the plot: Predators in Siberia! Cool, I thought! They usually hunt in the heat, so they're out of their element. Maybe that will give the humans an upper hand! Thoughts of all the wonderful potential this novel had danced through my head.

Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as good as all that. The aliens' ship crash lands in Siberia, and the book mainly focuses on the Russians and Americans having a race to get to it first so they can study it. The Predators are not in the book nearly enough, and there's also not enough killing (I know how that sounds, but this is, after all, a Predator book, and it's what readers both expect and want).

The plot moves along at a decent enough pace, but never really seems to kick in to full-speed. However, the russian female lead character (my utmost apologies, but her name escapes me and I haven't a copy of the book nearby) is a great character. Schaefer shows up too (the guy from the first book), which is really cool, and has some nice scenes of conflict with the russian gal, what with their clashing personalities. These are some good points to the book, but they aren't quite enough.

The ending, when it does come, comes far too quickly. I think this book could have been saved by having been made longer and, oh, I don't know, showing the Predators some more (since it is a PREDATOR book). If you're a fan of Predator, you'll enjoy the book somewhat, but if not and you just want to sample a Pred. novel for some reason, go with the first book by Archer, Concrete Jungle.

Summary: When Hell freezes over...
Review: Siberia has very little to offer - deadly storms, bears and some oil. So when the Pentagon detects a Predator's spaceship in the region they figure this might be a chance of a lifetime to grab some of the alien technology. And they better hurry, because while the Russians are baffled by the string of murders - villagers, soldiers, DOGS - they won't be baffled for long.
It becomes a race between the two nations to capture the alien hunters before they can escape.
Detective Schaefer returns, as part of the U.S. team, a unwilling part I may add. And he has his own ideas about what to do with the spaceship and its crew.
Good idea but nobody every explained why the ship crashed in the first place.

Summary: Worth reading, but not all that
Review: The predator storyline is original in that it takes place in siberia, that was the part that interested me in reading it. The two main characters schaefer and the russian lieutenant are a couple of real predator but kickin heroes that do the human race proud and send a clear warning to other alien scum. As far as the action goes there is not to much up until the last quarter of the book, but it is worth reading for any predator fan.

Summary: Superior to the previous book.
Review: The title of this review is subject for debate. However it is the opinion of this reviewer and doesn't reflect the general consensus view. That said, I'll begin.

First off the characters were written far better than the previous book (Scheaffer didn't seem to be a schizophrenic) and Rasche was a far more and well balanced characters as well. Portrayal of Russian military personnel was, as far as I can tell, dead on. The predators in this story, however, were not in proper conjunction with the predators from the films or the previous novel by the author of this book. They were very mean, a little too mean, even for predators. I realize that they were trapped in an area that must have irritated them greatly and they seemed to be having difficulties leaving due to damages they sustained upon their arrival in Siberia but I still don't think predators would have been so careless or evil about a couple pieces of heating unit. Or they would have slaughtered an unarmed man, it doesn't coincide with the presented previous works. That said the story itself is original and entertaining, providing a new element, a new setting and a new country. The previous book by Nathan Archer seemed to be a bad attempt at rewriting Predator 2 with Schwarzenegger in it and making it the way most fans would have liked to have had Predator 2 turn out, which isn't a bad thing trying to do what the fans want but that leaves little room for the development of characters and interesting and or new concepts for story telling.

Just like the previous book (and virtually all published novels in which the predator character appears) this book is not like the first or second film at all. Predators don't really stalk people in these books, they just appear. That deflates some of the tension that could have been there had the writer watched the film before writing either of his books. But I still was biting my nails at a couple parts, something Concrete Jungle failed to make me do even once.

The end of the book was a big let down. Because it made no sense. It made it out like the predators had the ability to leave the entire time and were just hanging out and being ruthless (even for predators), cold blooded, dishonorable (bad thing in the predator world) killers just because they liked the freezing cold. The entire book in no way expanded upon the predators them selves which is always a downer when it comes to these Aliens, Predator and Aliens Vs Predator novels. The juiciest parts, we, as fans, find in the novels is the interesting hints into their world and neither book did anything new as far as the predators them selves go.

The book had a pretty bad ending and seems to be generally unliked buy the previous reviewers but I still found this book very worthy of the money I spent on it. It only gets four stars because of the ending.

**
Buy this instead of Aliens: Genocide.

Summary: action-packed, gory.
Review: This book is awsome! With more action than you can shake an AK-47 at it made you always say "Just one more page." Detailed, exiting and entertaining!

"Hey Archer, we need more Predator books over here!"

Summary: Great Book
Review: This Book was great, one of the best I've read out of all the Predator and Aliens VR Predator books. Shaefer is the coolest action hero right up next to Arnold Shwarzenegger. This book makes you shake if you really get into it, I just wish they'd make more Predator books, I've been waiting and I've read all the others. anyways, Awesome Book. If you don't read it, then your missing out.

Summary: Halfway Decent
Review: tHIS IS ACTUALLY THE 1ST pREDATOR BOOK i'VE TRIED. iT WAS A FAST-PACED ACTION/ADVENTURE NOVEL that was fun to read.

The latest Alien vs Predator movie made me hunger for more, so I found this book and tried it. Glad I did. Nathan Archer is a good action/adventure sci-fi writer.

My only regret? That this story could have been fleshed-out more, both in storyline and character development.
