Summary: The Thinking Person's Action Series
Review: I got hooked on this series when I picked up a copy of book #1, which had the dorkiest BEM on the cover which totally mis-represented the amazingly complex, beautiful, ugly, fascinating story within. Read everyone else's comments - simply stunning series that leaves you panting for that phenomenonally overdue book #5. Read the first three first, absolutely essential. Love. Horror. Military sequences of brutality and despair. Betrayal. Revenge. Redemption. Secrets. Dirty limericks. Fascinating human technology advances alluded to, with other interesting asides and stories (f'rinstance, men wearing kilts and makeup, telepaths changing genders, the 'beanstalk' project, and my favourite from book #2, the 'baby dollar bill' disaster). And for you damn yankees, we down south in Australasia are preparing a nice welcome for you *grin*. Just get all four books, enjoy, and wait with baited breath for the next instalment.

Summary: Great Book, Great Series, but Please Finish it!
Review: I have been reading this series starting with the first book over ten years ago. All of the books are GREAT, but I hated the wait for the next one to come out. I have been waiting (along with all of the others who have written reviews) for book five for much too long! Mr. Gerrold, please get it out!

Summary: Frustrating
Review: I read grand epics such as Tolkien's, Asimov's and others and I put this story up with all of these masters. But it has one giant flaw: Mr. G has kept us waiting for years for the release of his fifth book. I hope he writes it before I pass on because I would be very dissappointed if he did not finish the story. It is a grand epic that combines political intigue, our hero keeps putting himself into tight spots and barely makes it out alive. It is an easy fast paced read. I read the first book of the series in one night. But the series is frustrating as Mr. G loves to keep his devoted fans waiting. It is Frustrating but don't miss out. It is a great story.

Summary: The author is overwhelmed!
Review: I'm enormously grateful for all the enthusiasm shown by the readers. I'm staggered by the depth of feeling.

For those who are waiting for book five, please don't despair. Be patient. These things are hard to write, and book five is the hardest because ... well, I hope you'll see why very soon. I'm hard at work on it.

I'll be posting more information soon on my website.

Thank you all very much!

David Gerrold

Summary: we know how it ends... but how do we get there?
Review: If you havent read DG's "Voyage of the StarWolf" or the two booker "Covenant of Justice" and "Under the Eye of God" then you dont. But if you have, then you know through certian references to the past.

After finishing #4 I thought to myself, "Self... this is the most complete, consistent, involving, etc... series you have ever read", for I was completely exausted when I finally finished. I then proceeded to read the series again and found answers to alot of questions that went unanswered during the first go-through, like, What finally happened to Ted? What was the purpose of all the dirty limericks in ARFR? Why did we need to know about the Baby Cooper '$', and Who cares for Soloman(Foreman)Short quotes? My advice to all who get involved in this black-holeish type series is read it again and again. I've read the series atleast 10 times and not only do answers keep presenting themselves but it keeps me from taking a road trip to L.A. to see if i can help him jog his AMAZING imigination.

I was hopelessly hooked from Book #1 and and the series has had me thinking about my own "Modes" ever since. Jim has definately matured through the years and that maturity shows on multiple occasions. I do believe I learned something from the mode training.

My fustration level at the end of this book almost rivaled the fustration I had at the end of book #1; just a dead-pan, "be sure to tune in next week folks!!!" except weeks have stereched into five years. Take this to heart David... dont worry about anything else but finishing that book... quit teaching and lecturing. When you finally out,"A Method For Maddness" you will make more money than McDonalds... We fans love to show our appreciation of expertly crafted, originally twisted, and jaw-dropping plots by buying the new release and telling all our friends to go buy it too.

Summary: Where's the 5th
Review: Little did I know, after picking up the first book in an airport book store, that I would be waiting to finish the "trilogy" 15 years later. The whole series sweeps you along like a raging stream; through rapids, around eddies, over falls and across placid waters.

The last five years have been a frustrating wait, but I manage. Have mercy Mr. Gerrold, publish the fifth book.

Summary: 4.99 STARS -- OKAY, SO I'M IN THE PROCESS OF
Review: moving and I'm putting the books in boxes and making the difficult decisions as to which books to leave behind. So, I come across this and think, "You know, I barelled through this the first time I read it. Let's read it again" So, now I'm barreling through this again! Gerrold's books in this series are hard to put down. I don't recommend you start with this book because you will lack a lot of backstory, but his CTHORR series almost deserves the perfect 5 rating. Also of interest is the MODE training described in the book, which is Gerrold's version of EST (except you are allowed to go to the bathroom.) On second reading, I can't tell if Gerrold intends the training to be taken seriously, or if it is his takeoff on NLP and other modern "technologies". Anyway--highly recommended.

Summary: Better than Heinlein's "Future History," no contest!
