Rating: Summary: What Happened to Victoria Strauss? Review: THIS book does NOT stand alone. The plot within is nowhere nearstrong enough and the main character has Harold's Purple Crayon to getout of trouble with (Harold was a little boy with a purple crayon who drew stairs, windows and whatall in that book of which he was the main character as the story was taking place--a handy thing to have). The relation between Cariad and Orin needs the purple crayon also; perhaps a clearer development of the concept that intelligence and ability are also gifts would have helped. Having said that, if you have read the Arm of the Stone, you will have a much better plot foundation on which to ground this story. BETTER, however, that you also have read Worldstone so that you will understand Bron, Marhalt, even Jolyon far better. The author does not connect Worldstone with the other two, but neither does she break continuity with it. Worldstone plays a part much as the hobbit does in Lord of the Rings, although it chronologically fits between Arm of the Stone and Garden of the Stone. Ideally, though it should be read first. I presume the author does not connect Worldstone directly because she wrote it in 1985 and it is OOP. If you read all three books, Garden of the Stone is far more enjoyable and the plot more palatable. I hope the author has not taken to "churning" out books for $; She is far too fine an author for that.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT READ Review: THIS WAS A WORTHY SEQUEL TO 'ARM OF THE STONE'. THE AUTHOR CREATES A WORLD AND PEOPLE THAT YOU WILL ENJOY COMPLETLY. I HOPE TO SEE MORE FROM THE AUTHOR!
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading; will keep you up all night. Review: Victoria Strauss has followed up her excellent The Arm of the Stone with an equally compelling sequel. If you haven't read Arm, don't worry - both books stand alone. This one features a complex female assassin character on whom the fate of the world depends. Strauss keeps readers guessing all the way through, and provides an unexpected and satisfying ending.
Rating: Summary: A brilliant sequel. Review: Victoria's fist novel in this series was brilliant. This one,the second of the series, is equally brilliant. Although the pace ofthe novel is slower than the first one in the series, it carries on Victoria's brilliant series. She takes her knowledge of religion and crafts a very compelling story of intrigue, deceit, and hatred. Highly recommended. It has also come to my attention that Victoria is working on a third installment of this series. I can't wait to see it.
