Rating: Summary: Very Slow going Review: Let me start by saying that I prefer character driven books. But for a story that has become one giant soap opera, it is amazing how little I cared about any of the characters in this installment. Trying to figure out why this might be, I looked carefully at the writting and realized that Norman almost never tells you what a character is thinking. She writes it like a play with masses of dialog and some description but no inner workings of the characters. Brynee was one of my favorit characters and he is really the star of this book. So much happens to him, and there are so many dramatic changes in him and yet there is no insight into what he is feeling or what battles he fought with himself. I didn't come to know him, nor care about him. Most of the book just dragged. I had a hard time getting though the first 400 pages in which almost nothing happens. The last 200 pages are packed full of events and a much better read. I loved the first three books but this and the last one have not been paced well. There are many scenes that are repeated from different views, yet rarely do we get a quick summery of previous events so that we can appreciate the current storyline. I read the last one when it came out over a year ago and I can't remember who did what. There is no way someone who had not read the other books could follow this one.
Rating: Summary: They never let you go. Review: Lisanne Norman creats a world where you can believe you a actually there. With each book you read you can't wait to see what comes next.A wonderful blend of science and mysticism.I can't wait to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Series book makes you want to read more. Review: Lisanne Norman has captured the attention of the Sci-fi world. The Sholoan Alliance Series ranks right up there with Anne McCaffrey Rowan Series. I look forward to the next book in the series. Any Idea when it will be out? I have got to know what happens to Kusac, Kaid, and Carrie.
Rating: Summary: An exciting addition to a great series! Review: Lisanne Norman's Sholan series is one of the most engrossing I have ever read. Dark Nadir is just as engrossing as the rest of the series. It has a huge cast of characters with multiple and complex plot lines. Often in a book with that many characters, I have a few favorites and get frustrated when they arn't the focus and read quickly ahead to get back to them. All of Norman's characters are interesting and involving. I didn't even mind that so much of this book was not focused on the orignal characters of Carrie and Kusac. For great characters and world building as well as lots of romance and adventure, I highly recommend the Sholan series. I will be waiting anxiously for the next installment!
Rating: Summary: One immature author Review: Lisanne Normon is a very immature writer, along with her characters and style. Nothing happens for the first 400 some pages. It was a terrible book.
Rating: Summary: A guide for how to write melodrama... Review: Ms. Norman has written yet another entertaining novel that you'll hate to put down, or worse, reach the end of. All the books of the Sholan Alliance are good and very entertaining. (You should start with the first one, if you're interested in them. Warning: they are an addiction.) For aspiring writers, they can serve as a guide to how "it" is done. This is melodrama, and it follows Murphy's golden rule: if something can go wrong, some onnery character will do the wrong thing and make it go wrong. Ms. Norman's characters are individuals, even the least of them. And, by goodness, they are very opinionated and pig-headed, just like your neighbors and your boss. It is very difficult to figure out what will happen next. This story is an adventure, and it's always surprising. I maintain a top ten list of all the books I've ever read. Though the Sholan Alliance books cannot be mistaken for literature, either SF or mainstream, they are good, very good. With Dark Nadir, Ms. Norman's Sholan Alliance series has cracked my top ten list. I can't wait for her next book!
Rating: Summary: This is so good it is a must read! Review: Okay this is a book in the series... whether you start with the first book or start with this one you won't be disappointed! This book is a crowning achievement... surpassing my greatest expectation of her works. I absolutely loved this book and think it is among her best. The plot twists were great. I read the whole book without wanting to put it down. I am sure you'll be struck in a similar way!
Rating: Summary: Devil Fish Review: Okay, I have one title to sum up the entire thing- "Devil Fish". It written, edited, and, well, everything was just like watching this movie called "Devil Fish" that they poked fun at one Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes, which has to be one of the worst movies of all time. Lisanne Norman neads to learn how to write, stating with discription. The only thing she knows HOW to discibe in the previous books was the unnearving sex scenes.Only her fist book was semi-enjoyable to read, though it couldn't take a 6th grader to write it. Every other one of her books is compleatly dumb, says little about what is happaning outside of these shallow characters lives, and why are Carrie and Kusac always going on these missions when they should be at home raising thier daughter? The cover was nicely done, probably because the publishers knew that it would never sell without it. Her books are TERRIBLE and she should have stopped after the frist one. I don't understand why DAW (publisher) continues with this worthless series. It's only junk that will rot your brain.
Rating: Summary: GOOD Review: Pretty good, though I am not all that happy about what has happened to the Kusac and the resolution of Dwyne situation. The new aliens are a hoot, especially the Primes. I'd love to know how our favorite reptile general gets along, though he'll probably take over the whole empire by the time he is through. And what is that obsession he has with purring?
Rating: Summary: Kinky - in every sense of the word Review: Sex, sex, and more sex! What more could you want in a book? Oh, right...the story...it was a really good one, and I'm just waiting to see what else is going to happen to Carrie, Kusac, Kaid, and the rest of the gang. The thought that Brynne could be a visionary as revered as Kaid is really interesting, accompanied by the fact that Brynne has now life-bonded with Keeza. Right now I'm thinking "June 2000...hurry up, I want the next book!"
