Rating: Summary: An interesting concept ruined by bad pace and violence Review: The book starts out as an intruiging concept but the pace is terribly slow and the narrative and dialogue elements quickly become repetitive. I almost put it down permanently several times. Then I got suckered in by the action that started happening mid-way through the book. It seemed as if the pace was picking up, and indeed there were some interesting character twists (like the relationship between Time and Hart that I had a feeling about), but then it degenerates into 200 pages of violence, with the last 30 being like something out of a zombie horror film, gratuituous and sadistic. I was so sickened by it it gave me nightmares afterwards. SKIP THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Great Ideas Went to this Town to Die Review: The ideas and concepts and even some of the characters were so fantastic that I was really upset when I realized that nothing was happening! The ending was completely unfulfilling and not at all unanticipated. Skip it!
Rating: Summary: One of My Favorites EVER Review: This book is about a town where dreams and legends go to die when no one believes in them anymore. It is fun, and also thought provoking and combines and great variety of entertainment, violence (but not so much as to make it an un-family book) and something for everyone! As cliche as that is, I MEAN IT!
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: This book is amazing. If you like Green's other books, don't miss this one.
Rating: Summary: Easily, one of the best books I've ever set eyes on!! Review: This is one of the greatest books I've ever read in my life. The way Simon Green portrays his characters is unrivaled. It's the type of book that your average person will fall in love with, simply because we all see a little of ourselves in every character. It's a very thought-provoking book, as well, since Simon Green approaches all sorts of philsophical issues throughout the book. All in all, a great read!
Rating: Summary: I always thought this place existed.... Review: Very, very few books can make me get that "choked up" feeling at all, but this one managed to do it within the first chapter. That in and of itself is an accomplishment. Simon Green paints Shadows Fall as a wonderful way station between here and the hereafter, a place where anything is possible. He makes it a wonderful place where we would all like to visit... and then tears it apart. There are lots of intricate plots weaving around each other, and he doesn't pull any punches with the story, either - good characters don't make it all the way through the book. But it's okay, because it's done well. This is easily one of my favorites that Simon has done, and I wish I could read more about this strange and wonderful town....
