Rating: Summary: Excellent Story, Excellent Book Review: Excellent Story, Excellent Book Who among us is so perfect we can't forgive? Not me for sure. I'm speaking specifically of Pete Rose in his new book. Mr. Rose has come forward and admitted his past mistakes, and is humbly asking forgiveness in this book. I say yes. Pete Rose has a brilliant mind on the strategy of winning baseball, and a keen sense of player ability. There is foundation in the Bible for forgiveness of those so deserving. In my opinion Pete Rose qualifies. I say let him back in the game to manage somewhere and stand for election to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Bruce Lloyd
Rating: Summary: My Prison Without Bars - Yeah, right! Review: For those of you who bought Rose's previous "biography", I wonder if he will offer a refund as the book is replete with lies. How long before his steadfast denials of betting from the clubhouse in this book will be proven to be nonsense and this latest rehash can be re-classified as fiction as well. He still gambles, he's still in denial that he has a problem and would no doubt bet on baseball again if he is ever reinstated. Here's a guy who has never stopped thinking he is smarter than we are. Is he not bright enough to know that on the nights he didn't bet on the Reds, he might as well have bet against them as that is the message he was sending. Old Charlie Hustle...what an appropriate nickname. Behold his latest biography, his latest "hustle" and if you've got 25 bucks (or even 17 and a half on Amazon) to spend on it, I have some land in Florida in which you might be interested.
Rating: Summary: Shallow Review: Ghost written BS. A poor campaign for reinstatement so he can get into the hall of fame. Great ball player of the past. always an immature, narcisist who wouldn't know truth or honor if it beaned him in the forehead. Read the various articles over the years from Sports Illustrated if you want to know about the real Pete Rose. Read the book if you want to read a hallmark card to himself.
Rating: Summary: Shift All The Blame Everywhere Else Review: He shifts the blame everywhere but where it belongs -- PETE ROSE. This is a lame attempt to attempt to clear the air so he can make it in to the Baseball Hall of Fame, but believe me, he will NEVER make it there! He is a LIAR!!! The book contains several glaring errors and typos and you think the editor would have told him to cut back a little on the usage of "feller" and "sumbitch."
Rating: Summary: What a joke! Review: How are you supposed to know when Rose is lying and when he isn't lying? This is garbage. Rose cares about one thing: ROSE. He'll say whatever it takes to make a buck. This clown gives JERKS a bad name. I wish he would just go away.
Rating: Summary: Expected More from Pete Review: I am a 65 year old lifetime lover of baseball. Before reading this book, I was somewhat supportive of Pete getting into the Hall of Fame. Now, I am not sure that he should be. One must deeply appreciate his accomplishments on the field, but to be in the Hall of Fame, a player must be overall admired, it would seem. Rose has a very distorted view of "right and wrong". He has a persecution complex, even about his son and the "art on the locker" incident. He failed in his marriage and in raising his children. He is or was addicted to gambling. He was a self-proclaimed womanizer. He served time in federal prison for tax evasion. He failed to admit his many mistakes, until now. Pete is no hero, nor is he an example for other kids to follow. He would have been better off had he not written this book in my opinion. I am disappointed in Pete and wish I did not know of his deeds off the field. There is much more to life than being in the baseball Hall of Fame. Pete should concentrate on building his own character, if that is possible at this late stage of his life.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!!!!!!! Review: I am just finishing up reading this book and before reading this I believed Pete Rose should go to the hall of fame. Now after reading this it gives me an excellent insight into his life and I now believe he shouldnt be in the hall of fame. THe things he did while gambling are mind boggling. This is one of the best books i have read. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book because it will give you and insight into the mind of a truely gambling addict. I mean the things he did are just amazing(in a bad way), once you read this i believe you will think again as to whether to allow Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. If he does somehow get re-instated HE SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO MANAGE again, he has to pay for what he did and survive with just being re-instated even if he never gets into the hall of fame. THIS IS A TRUELY REMARKABLE BOOK!!!! I am a huge baseball fan and I just couldnt put this book down. Definetly worth the money I spent for it.
Rating: Summary: American Psycho!!! Review: I bought MY PRISON WITHOUT BARS as soon as my local Barnes & Noble opened today and then I spent the rest of the day reading it. This is one of the truly great sports memoirs of all-time. Not because it's literature or all that dramatic -- but, because it's the self-portrait of a great American hero who turned himself inside out and emerged as a great American villian. Pete Rose operates under a set of ethics and rules unique to superstar atletes who think they're gods living among mortals. This mindset has resulted in his offering up an autobiography that's as bizarre as it is compelling. In its own strange way, this is a sports classic.
Rating: Summary: Pointless rationalizations Review: I saw Rose play in person multiple times in the 1970s. He was my favorite ballplayer. But, what he did -- gamble on baseball -- cannot be forgiven. Gambling vitiates the core of the game, i.e., the integrity of the contest. Gambling was very nearly the ruination of the national pastime in 1919. And, this is why Rose deserves naught but contempt and ignominy that he brought upon himself. He is a leper. And, the book reveals nothing that any barely sentient being didn't already know.
Rating: Summary: LOSER! Review: I WAS a Pete Rose fan. I have an autographed ball. Now I keep it as a joke. I read this book at Barnes & Noble. I wouldn't pay .50 cents to own Mr. Hustle's latest con. I'm sorry to see this liar making money on this worthless book. Stop buying it! He's a loser!
