Summary: The best book about wrestling I've ever read !
Review: 4.5/5.0 stars.
This is a fascinating and fast paced read about the World Wrestling Federation and its head man Vince Mcmahon. A real life look at the "ruthless aggression" that helped Vince establish a highly popular (and lucrative) form of "sports entertainment". The book is well written and provides facts in a clear cut and non judgemental fashion. The steroid trial, Vince's turbulent upbringing, the war between the WWE and the WCW and Turner, it's all in here. Casual observations about the rampant drugs and steroid abuse may shock non WWF fans, and fascinate fans who only thought they knew the truth. Some of the best and most popular wrestlers are also profiled. Not everything about Vince or the WWF is flattering (much to the delight of McMahon haters like Phil Mushnick and Bob Costas I'm sure) but it's honest and shows Vince as a true survivor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for fans of the excellent documentaries Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows and Beyond the Mat in particular. An overall very good book (if perhaps a little short), and something everyone should enjoy reading.

Summary: GREAT READ
Review: This is one of the best wrestling books I have ever read. It gives many details about wrestling in the last 20 years. Read and enjoy!

Summary: Rollicking true-life tale
Review: Never before has the world of pro wrestling received such a serious dose of reporting and storytelling. Even if your acquaintance with this world is only passing, this book will hold you from the first page right on through with riveting insider details from the wings of this bizarre alternate universe. Many nonfiction books fail to deliver on promises of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. But here the action rolls in spades. Vince McMahon and his cronies are known for their byzantine secretiveness, and that makes this work all the more compelling, as Assael and Mooneyham pull back the curtain that has shrouded this Barnum spectacle for decades. Where else will you find Vince McMahon with his face buried in a mound of blow?

Summary: tremendous
Review: I enjoyed the book. I could not put it down and I am not even a wrestling fan. In fact I have never watched the WWF. The author's really hit a homerun with this book.

Summary: Fascinating Look at the Monday Night Wars
Review: Sex, Lies, and Headlocks serves as an outstanding historical overview of the professional wrestling industry. The book provided insight into the behind the scenes war between the WWF and WCW and into the major players involved in the war. It made me view Vince McMahon with more respect for his "ruthless aggression" but also let me know that I would never want to have any type of interaction with him. Overall a satisfying read that I wish had been 300 pages longer. The best insiders look at professional wrestling in the last 50 years.

Summary: The real side of wrestling
Review: Shaun Assael gives the reader a glimpse in the controversial world of wrestling. From highschool gyms to sell out crowds in major arenas, this book gives a personal look into the lives of the McMahon family, Ted Turner, and everyone else who built these wrestling companies into the mainstream sports entertainment in which they are in now. Prepare to be shocked on how real wrestling really is...

Summary: A No-Holds-Barred Takedown
Review: This book is incredibly well researched--the authors shine bright spotlights into the dark corners of wrestling's history--and a really gripping, dramatic narrative. I read the book in two sittings (hey, a guy's got to sleep, you know) and found myself not only sharing some of the anecdotes from the book with friends but actually starting to reread it again. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

Summary: A great history of wrestling
Review: One might pick this book up thinking it is soley about superpower wrestling mogul Vince McMahon Jr. That would partially be right, but it would be overlooking that this book also gives an excellent insight as to how the WWE and Vince became what they are today. All the way back to the 1920's, when wrestling was more of a sport, to the wrestling territories of the 40's, 50's and 60's. And even Ted Turners relunctant involvement in the creation of WCW.

I have been a fan of wrestling for many years (I believe I first watched the show in 1984) so I have seen many things come and go. To read certain parts of this book was to indulge a bit of nostalgia about the olden (and some would say golden) years of wrestling past. I was, however, never a fan who seen professional wrestling for anything other than what it was; one of the greatest live SHOWS on earth. Those wishing to bash wrestling because the winners of the matches are predetermined and certain "spots" during the match are practiced before hand, need only to look at the athletic ability of the people in todays WWE. They are an amazing troupe of acrobats, strongmen and nut-cases, all strung together (and along) the all time ring master himself, Vince McMahon.

Read this book, whether you are a fan of wrestling or not, at the very least you will get an excellent rags to riches story and get to see one of Americas most public billionaires go to the fringes of madness and back again. It is a journey into the mind and soul of the phenomenon that we call wrestling, and it demands your attention on every single page. Excellent read.

Summary: A must read for all wrestling fans.
Review: This book is amazing. It tells the real story of the WWF and Vince McMahon. In this book, it recalls McMahon's effort to get his company known. I will watch wrestling in a different aspect now.
