Summary: Started good ended poor!
Review: The last quarter of the book comprises very badly faded (print quality, not the authors fault), hard to read & hard to understand & totally boring hook test graphs, fly line mass graphs and hook dimension & test tables. Although some readers & fly tiers may find this interesting I don't. The first three quarters of the book is OK (about 3 stars) but the last quarter lets the book down. It would have been good if those pages had been devoted to more fly patterns.

Review: The Lyons Press is on a roll. Micropatterns is thorough and detailed in every way. This book compares well with the Fly Tyers Benchside Reference (Frank Amato press) for the clarity of prose and depth of detail. I believe a new genre has arrived. Mr. Martin has everything from scanning electron micrographs of antron, broken hooks and hackle to the delicate methodology of keeping 10-ought thread flat while tying. The illustrations are superb and well placed. If 18-26 size flies are your game, this is your book.
