Rating: Summary: Must read of the summer of 2001 Review: Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a physical or mental challenge? What if simple, everyday activities suddenly became completely beyond your capability? What if you were told that you should just accept your new limitations and get on with a reduced life? Would you accept those limitations passively or would you fight them actively? What would you do? This book is the story of the author's battles to relearn to run, something which most of us take completely for granted. It is of obvious interest to readers who have felt physically challenged at some point in time in some activity. Since this applies to all of us at some point, the "triumph over adversity" story can be gut wrenching in its intensity. The author is a truly gifted writer and storyteller capable of stimulating each of your senses with her narrative. When I read the book I could not put it down. Luckily it was a pretty quick read. I do not run nor am I stroke survivor. The book still touched me completely with its humbling and highly motivational story. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to recharge their motivational batteries or who wishes to take a step back from their own lives. After this book they will look at simple activities quite differently.

Rating: Summary: An Amazing Must-Read Book Review: Teaching Me To Run is the true story of one woman's struggle back from a debilitating stroke. Against all odds she not only taught herself to walk but taught herself to run. For anyone who is struggling through life, for anyone who thinks they're having a bad day or a tough time, this book is an eye-opener. Tommy-K. Mayer is an inspiration and her story should be read, reread and shared.
