Summary: An excellent and important book
Review: As an equine osteopath of ten years I was delighted to see in Joni's book many of the answers I had been looking for to stop people injuring their horses. Joni has a unique insight into the mechanics of the horse, yet can make complicated issues appear simple and easily understood. I feel this book will become a classic. Buy it, read, do it.

Summary: Equestrian Business News , 1 September, 1999
Review: I have tried most treatments including, the Alexander technique. It is not for everybody and like classical horsemanship requires great discipline, but there is no doubt that it has helped many and that this book , with its clear illustrations and(praise be) jargon free language is as about as comprehensive a study as you can get. It is a technical book in the sense that it offers instruction, but that hasn't stopped the author's personality and clear views coming through. If you have customers who suffer from joint problems - as many of you will - this book could be a God send to them. And at ...it is a lot cheaper than all those "miraculous" treatments which consist of massaging the fleshly bits around the wallet..

Summary: This is a superb book!
Review: I was introduced to Alexander Technique and Centered Riding (separately) several years ago as a beginning adult rider. After several CR clinics, I gained a basic understanding of how Sally Swift uses Alexander. This book stands alone, but as a companion to Centered Riding, particularly Sally's new book, it will help you gain a lot more understanding of how your balance and centering affect your horse's way of going.

I had an opportunity to review the book with a Level IV CR instructor, and she was impressed. Many of the concepts and exercises she does in her clinics are there, and there are a many clever illustrations that clarify the concepts.

It doesn't make any difference what level or discipline you ride. This book and Centered Riding 2 are a terrific set to help you take your riding to new levels.

Review: Not a run of the mill riding manual , it's a life changer My sex life is suffering! My husband is complaining! Since buying Riding Success Without Stress I can't put it down! If you have ever been stuck in your riding, here is the book to get you moving. Not another run of the mill riding manual, it's a life changer. I now possess a complete tool box for my riding, rather than battling with just a hammer and nails. This book has enabled me to recognised my blocks and tap into the full potential that we all have. Clear and inspiring it will dispel the fog and awaken your senses, helping you discover new depths and harmony with your horse, that you only dared dream of. Truly brilliant!.......... And it works!

Summary: Stress Can Be Good!
Review: The title of the book is a bit misleading--stress can be good or bad. What I learned from this book certainly increases the good stress (the fun and excitement of riding) and decreases the bad (the moments that range from unhappy to terrorized!). It's nice to see photos of "real" people, not professionals, with average figures and wearing practical riding clothes. I found the writing a bit simplistic, but perhaps this is because I knew a bit about the Alexander Technique before I started reading.

This is a hefty book, and I'm afraid most readers won't give the technique the time and take the effort to practice that it deserves. Practice is necessary to change. And change is stressful in itself. I'd encourage everyone to read the ENTIRE book, practice as directed (it's easy), and then think about it while you ride. Or don't think about it--that's the point of the book! Just do what comes naturally, allowing your body to work as it is meant to. Your riding will be more successful with a lot less of the "bad" stress. I speak from experience.

Summary: The book that changed my vision of riding
Review: This book is a god send - just what I needed. I only regret that I did'nt discover it a year ago. I have been fudging around in the dark for a long time trying to get my legs to do what they should do. Trainers told me my hips were deformed because I couldn't get my heels down and toes up.

Within a few days of reading this book and trying the "Monkey" posture started by Alexander, I was able to flex in my ankles and become more able to deal with the upward and downward motion of the horse.

This book is more valuable than gold. In my opinion every rider should be given compulsory Alexander lessons to avoid wasting money on lessons given by insensitive 'end-gaining' instructors, and for them to be more aware of their posture and self carriage.

Although this book is a must, it may not be suitable for complete beginners as they have the eagerness and impatience to just want to get on with riding, and will have other things to think about or worry about - like the initial fear of being on the horse, falling off, getting the horse to move in the direction they want, spooking etc, this all takes time to get use to, so the last thing they will be thinking about for at least 1 year will be their position.
