Rating: Summary: From a coach, player and referee Review: From the Author:I'd like to reply to the review by Michael Thomas. He is right in saying that the book is of value to readers already experienced in the game - particularly referees and coaches. It is not intended as a primer for newcomers. To help those who need an easier entry to the rules I recommend one or more of my other books; SOCCER AND ITS RULES - 28 page pocket guide, published by Soccer Learning Systems, San Ramon,CA SOCCER RULES ILLUSTRATED - 144 pages, 130 easy-to-follow graphics, Triumph Books, Chicago,Ill. FAIR PLAY GUIDE - 16 page pocket guide for parents, players, coaches and other members of the soccer family - Soccer Learning Systems,CA. Through these four publications I've tried to help all soccer people, whatever their interest and role may be, to appreciate the traditional and practical values within the rules which have made soccer such a great world sport. Thanks for your review Michael. Stanley Lover

Rating: Summary: From a coach, player and referee Review: I have been playing and coaching soccer for 6 years now and recently completed my referee licensing clinic. I was looking for materials that would help me learn more about the laws of the game that I knew were there but had not yet been explained to me. I found that this book did not bring to light anything I did not already know. I felt it was a book that would be very felpfull to a newcomer to the sport of soccer. This will be a great book to pass around to the parents of the next youth team I coach to help the parents learn the basics of the laws of the game.
Rating: Summary: A somewhat tecnical look at the laws of the game Review: The book covers all the rules of the game in great detail but is more designed for a person / referee with quite a bit of soccer experience not a parent or beginner. There is some background on the origin of the game as well as some anecdotal information on the game which is nice to know but totally unnecessary if you just want to get up to speed on the rules. There are far too many pictures and other illustration which are of no value. This would be a book used as reference on a term paper, not as an easy aid to learning the rules of soccer.
