Summary: For Baseball followers everywhere
Review: Baseball's history is replete with many colorful characters, towering heroes, magnificent records and streaks of fortune, both good and ill. Certainly the Boston Red Sox have had more than their share. I found "Tales from the Red Sox Dugout" highly informative and entertaining. It's clear that author Jim Prime and his colleague Bill Nowlin have a deep love for this team, its history and many of the players that have made the Sox legendary.

The book is a collection of summaries, ordered alphabetically by player. Each summary includes background on the player, information on their accomplishments and one or more very amusing anecdotes. Several sections are well illustrated by Bob Jackson - you can see almost see the ball reflected in Carlton Fisk's eyes as it flies down the left field line. Perhaps its my bias as a baseball fan, but this sport seems to produce more laugh-out-loud stories than any other I can think of.

Buy and read this book - you'll learn why the mouth of Pedro Martinez may be as formidable as his right arm; why it's a good thing that GQ did not publish during the career of Carl Yaztrzemksi; why Bill Lee finds Gerbils praiseworthy; what might happen if the Splendid Splinter were to face the Big Unit. You will also learn about the humanity of several players and about their personal efforts in regards to the Jimmy Fund that helps young cancer victims in New England. The section on Ted Williams obviously reflects the passions of the authors and it's clear that the commitment to the team and players continues in their profile of Nomar Garciaparra.

Highly recommended that you add this book to your baseball collection.

Summary: Another Rip-Off
Review: Growing up in New England and specifically Massachusetts you have the Boston Red Sox baseball team a truly storied franchise with some unforgettable characters, so naturally I rooted for the Oakland A's in the 70's and the Phillies in the 80's. This book is a collections of the some the lighter sides of the Red Sox club.

While this 170-page book is not broken down into chapters that have a story line, you get so much more. Filled with stories from Tommy Harper, Don Baylor, Rod Beck, Wade Boggs, Nomar, Pedro, Clemens, Carbo, Ken Harrelson and many, many others.

There is stories about Wade Bogg's superstition with the numbers 7 and 17, Dwight Evans games saving catch in the 6th game of the '75 World Series, Dave Henderson's heroics in the 1986 ALCS and many more.

For the true Red Sox Fan or the baseball purist of any and all ages, this book, priced under $20.00, is one to have for generations to come. Sports Publishing have hit a grand slam with this one.

Summary: Interesting Red Sox stories
Review: It isn't necessary to be a Red Sox fan to enjoy reading this book. It's good to read of the crazy stunts that some of the ball players pulled. I remember a lot of the older players like Ted Williams and Pesky and more of that era. VERY GOOD READING!!

Summary: Easily read and enjoyable stories about a classic team
Review: The Boston Red Sox, by nature of their long history and years of frustration, have had a colorful cast of characters from which this book draws lovingly. Offering anywhere from one to many stories about players past and present, the authors offer anecdotes about countless humorous incidents that gave the Red Sox some of their charm.

Featuring many stories on the greats whose numbers are retired (Williams, Yaztremski, etc.) and current favorites like Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra and many more, the book is easy to read and provides a reader with appreciation for some of the best Boys of Summer.

Summary: I love Nomar!
Review: This books presents a light-hearted collection of anecdotes on Red Sox players, past and present.

Nomar Garciaparra enjoyed the book. He wrote, "A great book. It gave nme fresh insights into my team and its colorful history....Many of the anecdotes are hilarious, oher just plain weird. This book has captured the mood in the clubhouse and on the field. I'm sure basbeall fans will enjoy these fascinating behind-the-scnes glimpses as much as I did."

Well, I can't speak from experience in the clubhouse, but I remember a lot of these stories and the book evokes a lot of nostalgia for me. At the same time, as the stories on John Valentin, Pedro, Lou Merloni and Nomar all show, the tradition of the colorful Red Sox continues. What a great cover photo! I remember that game!

There's a lot here I never knew. I loved reading about how Norm Zauchin hit a home run on State of Maine Day and won a bear from Maine named "Homer" - then realized he didn't know what to do with it! Great stuff throughout!
