Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A fascinating read.
Review: The author and his friends took an extended canoe trip over 2 summers in the Norther Barrenlands of Canada (mostly on the Thelon River), and overwintered in an extremely remote area in a small cabin. Their sojourn there was interrupted by the crash of a Russian satellite nearby. The author writes well of the physical and emotional hurdles involved in such an experience, and describes brilliantly the contrasts between life in the bush, and the intrusive aspects of modern civilization as represented by the satellite and the search for it. I have read dozens of books of this nature, and this stays in my mind as one of the best.
