Summary: Rising Water by P.J Petersen
Review: When Kevin steals a car, instead of going to juvenile hall, he gets work in an animal shelter along with two volunteers, Tracy and her brother Luke. Tracy and Kevin clash immediately, and the book alternates between them, showing both points of view.
The whole book except the last chapter takes place on one day, when a huge rainstorm causes a flood. When the owner of one of the houses in the flooded area asks the kids to set up an automatic feeder for her stranded dog, what starts as a simple mission turns into a crazy day-long nightmare.
The three kids set out Luke's boat and end up rescuing a woman's most prized possessions, a fox, and a man stuck in his house. And when they finally get to the first woman's house, they find burglars in it.
There are two stories in this book - how the kids manage to escape the burglars, and how Tracy and Kevin learn more about each other and become - almost friends. A dramatic and scary adventure story, and a friendship story, going on at the same time. This is a great book, and I really enjoyed it.
