Summary: Lady Susan Is Like No Other Jane Austen Heroine
Review: Lady Susan may not appeal to all of us ,but she did to me. Unlike all other Jane Austen heroines she is evil, scheming, and seductive. This novel may strike you as odd because it is presented in epistolary form (it's written in letters)but ,to me, that did not hurt the effect of the novel. Lady Susan's wickedness is thrilling and the plot of the book was fast-moving emotionally. You cannot fully enjoy Lady Susan until you have had previous exposure to Jane Austen. I have read all of her novels and stories and this, one of her earliest works, stands out. It is short and a wonderful quick-read. In the book, Lady Susan has practically imprisoned her daughter, Frederica, in a boarding school which she hates. She does this because Frederica will not marry the idiot that Lady Susan has chosen for her. Then Lady Suasn goes to live with her late husband's brother, Mr.Vernon, and his wife. Mrs. Vernon distrusts Lady Susan and she is right in doing so. I will not spoil the book for you, only state that it was well worth reading. Of course all the loyal Janeites will know how this book will end, at least in one area of generality if not in the particulars.
