Summary: I absoutly loved this book!
Review: Ji is a young Chinese girl that is an excellent role model for girls and boys everywhere.

She is an excellent student, and an overachiever. One day at school, she is tested for the Liberation Armys' Dance Troupe. Her father doesn't allow her to try out because their family history is black, not red(her grandfather was a landlord, which is considered bad). Ji doesn't try out.

That is only the beginning. What will Ji do when her house is searched, her father is detained, an aunt humiliated, and numerous other things? Read the book and find out.

I was drawn into this book the minute I started it, I couldn't put it down. This is a wonderful account of China, from the eyes of a young girl.

Summary: A moving story of the Chinese Revolution
Review: This book shows the best and worst of the human spirit. It lets us see into the darkness we are capable of, as well as the good we can do, weither in a large way or a small way it's there. The truth in this book is stronger than any fiction, the author goes into details that serve to captivate the reader in this dramatic story.

Summary: A morality play set during the Cultural Revolution
Review: This is an interesting account of a young girl growing up during the Cultural Revolution. The climax comes when the protagonist must decide between the totalitarian system under which she lives and her own family. An interesting sideline aspect of this is that the girl comes form a Muslim family, although only the grandmother still practices the religion and prays to Allah. I recently read some excellent short stories set in the Cultural Revolution in Geling Yan's "White Snake and Other Stories" and saw a movie based on one of these stories, "Xiu Xiu the Sent-Down Girl" directed by Joan Chen. I find "Red Scarf Girl" and other first-person accounts important in understanding the Cultural Revolution as well as the excellent fiction about it that is beginning to appear.

Summary: A sentimental book.
Review: A very well written book with good descrptions. Even it's easy to read, you will never want to put the book down. This is a real-life story about Ji-li, a girl who lived during the Cultural Revolution of China. Because her ancestor was a landloard, it means she had a very bad family background in the opinion of the Chinese government's eyes. She couldn't attend a lot of activities that other kids did and she couldn't even take a lot of good opportunities because of her family background. She was later given two choices, either to break up with her family to join and be part of the Communist society or to stay with her black family. (In the story, the family with bad background was considered black family.) This book really touched me. I was stunned to know what the Cultural Revolution was and how it could affect so many good people in China. The setting was years ago and it surprised me to know the way they lived. It was very different from the idea of culture experience that I know. I don't usually like real-life stories but I enjoyed reading this book very much. It was written so it sounded just like a novel. It was a very sentimental book. I felt like I was Ji-li while reading this book. It made me fell depressed and sad. I could feel my heart beating all the time wondering what Ji-li would do or what would happen next. I recommend this book to everyone who likes historical fiction and real life stories. Anyone who doesn't like this kind of book can also try challenging theirself to read Red Scarf Girl.

Summary: A Great Book! Waiting to be read throughout the world!
Review: This was and excellent book! I reccommend it to 12 or 13 year olds. It is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It frightened me that this was a true story. Ji Li Jiang uses her descriptive, touching talent to write this novel that touches the heart in many different ways! This non-fictionous book will teach others the importance of family, friends, and pride.
