Summary: Review of "Go Ask Alice"
Review: Go Ask Alice is the true story of one girl's struggle with drugs, her family, and the dangerous things that can happen to a person when they make a wrong turn in the path of life. Reading the novel was like listening to a lecture about the dangers of drugs and how your life can turn into a nightmare if you become addicted. I was educated but also somewhat scared by this book, so I recommend that teens should read it but keep in mind that it isn't a sugar-coated fiction novel where everyone lives "happily ever after" at the end.

Summary: Depressing, Boring, Bad in General
Review: This book was extremely boring and depressing. It made drugs seem like a good thing to do in the beginning, which is bad, and then completely depresses you at the end when it tells you she died. I did not enjoy this book at all. And why don't they have a 0-star rating. 1 star implies that you may have found it slightly interesting.

Summary: Very moving
Review: This book actually gave me nightmares because I stayed up all night reading it. It is a very fast read, and it begins on how she goes to this party and tries drugs and all that stuff.

What I thought was the sadest part was the ending.. I won't say anything.

Summary: a reader
Review: I read this book as a teenager and was quite scared. But now looking at it again, I would gently suggest that it is made up. It is cleverly done, but there is just too much in there that probably would not happen, particularly the parts where she travels around but manages to keep writing entries, or the part where she goes to someone's house and just happens to be accidentally drugged. A very interesting book, but I would like to know who really wrote it.

Summary: Go Ask Alice, I feel like I have asked Alice
Review: I just finished this book this morning and I can easily say that this is the greatest, most interesting book I have ever read. I am 12 years old and i think anyone that is entering their teens or is in their teens should read this. I got recommended this book by my friend whos mom reccomended it to him. It is about a girl who is 15 years old. She enters the world of drugs and sex. She struggles through life at her high school and with drugs. She trys to stop and overcome her drug addiction. Her and her family goes through lots of problems. I recomend this to struggling teens or teens that are having a hard time at school or life. It is an anti drug book and I will never think of touching drugs after reading this book. Definately a 2 thumbs up five star book.

You will be trapped in her story and the way she deals with her life of drugs. from living on the streets to running away and peer pressure she experiences it all. while you read her dairy you will feal as if you have entered her world and there is only one way to do this.. read go ask alice for a witnessed experience on what happens when you get involed with the wrong crowd and drugs.

Summary: unrealistic, contrived, hyperbolic, fictional "diary"
Review: It seems many readers neglect to take into account that this "real diary" is a work of fiction and therefore says nothing definitive about teenage drug use, addiction, depression, etc. To quote the editors, 'Go Ask Alice: A Real Diary' is "based on the actual diary of a fifteen-year-old drug user." This means any of it -or more likely most of it- may be fictional (i.e. invented).

I cringed while reading this book about a seemingly sweet, naive, insecure girl who unknowingly drinks a soda spiked with LSD and winds up shooting-up speed (generally only what heavy, longtime users do) and having unprotected sex, while still yearning to try the elusive and seductive P O T. Come on, I mean, REALLY! Eventually girl finds strength, confidence, and friendship through her drug use. Yes, yes, we know... drugs are a crutch, a lie, a shield, an escape, etc. Girl's perfect life with mom and dad and brother and sister, and gram and gramps, slowly becomes one of running away, pushing drugs on elementary school kids, sleeping in gutters, panhandling, promiscuity, and turning tricks to support her habit (with plenty of unbelievable details along the way). Girl keeps trying to get clean but can't. Eventually, Girl makes it back to her family, stops using, and becomes the apple of a smart, together college student's eye (how convenient!). Everything seems ever so wonderful and promising until Girl is found dead from an overdose (hmmm). Did the author think that such an ending would seem more realistic? I mean, we all know happy endings are obviously made-up, don't we? Well, in this case, so are unfortunate endings.

This book is ludicrous, and it's a shame so many people take it to be a true story. Regardless, as a work of fiction, there isn't enough character development to really care about what the protagonist is going through. My guess is that 'Go Ask Alice' was authored by someone who knows very little about drugs with the intent of further convincing the conservative, ill-informed, drug fearing public of the over exaggerated evils of recreational drug use. The protagonist's addiction is totally out of proportion with her actual drug use. The ending is poor & unbelievable. I would not make this book available in my class library. It's junk. And please, let's not forget the definition of fiction and the artistic license it allows.

Summary: Poor Alice
Review: This book was really amazing. When I first starting reading the book, I was a little bored. However, as things start going, I couldn't believe what I was reading. I was stunned to hear that she was only fifteen and already her and her friends were playing a game with LSD. What made it worse was that she had no idea. I found the diary format of the book to be very effective. It was interesting to hear her day-to-day activities, although sometimes I was sick to my stomach. The diary format gave the book a sense of reliability. It made it easy to empathize with her because you knew everything that was going on inside her head. It is depressing to think that kids could be so involved with such bad things. This book makes you take a hard look at yourself and those around you. It makes you want to do better for yourself and stay far away from drugs. When you really think that this story is true, it makes you really feel sorry for her. If only she would have had someone to talk to, someone to get her out of there, then maybe she would still be alive. I think kids should read this book under the right supervision and learn from her mistakes. This book can be a useful tool in learning how to grow up and control your impulses.

Summary: Depressing
Review: I did enjoy reading this book but it also depressed me to a great degree. I have personally seen many close people to me go the route the "Alice" did and it was a hard slap to the face. As for the "character", I felt no pity. Young adults would get a good deal of real world information from this book but I feel that it glorifies drug use a bit too much as well as displaying the possible consequences of it. All in all it was a very interesting read.

Summary: The scary truth
Review: This book is a harsh reality check. If you keep in mind that the diary was written in the 1970's, you realize how insane life could be at that time. The book is a diary of a young girl caught in the insanity of a life of drug addiction. At first description you think, wow that sounds awesome, but as you continue to read about "Alice's" experiences you see how insane a life with drugs actually is. The book is very interesting, but very sad.
