Rating: Summary: Absolutly rubbish Review: I think that this book is fiction.I read so many books about drugs and I suppose that a huge amount was better.
Rating: Summary: Life of a girl, held captive in her own mind... Review: This book was EXCELLENT! It shows the hardships of being a teen girl, coaxed into drugs by some of her so called 'friends'. She has a hard life from there on, telling herself she would stop but only getting deeper and deeper. Like I said, "life of a girl, held captive in her own mind". Its really heart stabbing. A tear bringer.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful and shocking novel Review: This was certainly a very chilling tale. Especially being an adolescent, it was difficult for me to think of my friends getting into drugs so hard. It is frightening to think that it can happen to anyone, just one little party and your life can spin out of control, even if it was not intentional. Every teenager should read this book. It should help them to have the correct mind set about drugs and how harmful they really are.
Rating: Summary: Horrifyingly . . . wonderful Review: Go Ask Alice was most definitely one of the best books I have ever read. One thing that made it so great was that it was *real*. It actually happened. I could actually relate to what "Alice" was going through in some parts of the book. The book takes you through highs, drags you low, builds up to several climaxes, then BAM, the epilogue (which made me cringe) slams you in the face. Go read, you won't regret.
Rating: Summary: I still think about it Review: "Go Ask Alice" is a powerful book about a real girl who lived in the sixties. It takes your breath away and really makes you think. At the begining of the book she talks about boy trouble and normal teenage problums, by the middle one of her entries are, "Like I'm in Denver now. When I was high I just hitched hiked up here..." "I hope I can find the guys I came up with, I only have twenty dollars I stole from my dads pants." You could never even look at drugs. You will never read a book that hits you as hard as this. Brilliantly written, it will make you laugh, wonder, and cry.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book! Review: OMG! This was the first of the Annonymous books that I have read, and is probably the best! The book is so real, and so intense. You can't put it down! It shows how the life of a priviledged girl in the 60's with a drug-addiction really was. This is a wonderful book, and I recommend parents and their teens to read this together, it can really help them to understand eachother.
Rating: Summary: Teenage Life Review: This book was a great over view of the teenage life and the everyday preasures of everyday life. Being a teenager has it's ups and downs but can be very confusing and this book demonstrated many of these examples. One example is when she left home and tried to fend for herself and al she did was make her life worse. Many teenagers make bad decissions and they don't benefit from the lesson they learn so they are out of luck. Then another problem is that kids try to run the parents life and think they are in control. The parents then allow the kids to do this and then they learn that the kid didn't learn anything they just made the problem bigger. The girl in this story/diary becomes a drugy and makes many bad decissions and expected her parent to back her up no matter what happened and that isn't the case in many situations. I was told when I became a teenager that if I every got involved with drugs and my parents found out they would tell the police not to be mean but to teach me that it's wrong and illegal. My parents only wan the best for me and they just try to keep me in line. This book can and will teach many people to look at there lives and realize that they should straighten up or the worst of the worst can happen. I realy enjoyed the book because it related every day happenings in a teenagers life.
Rating: Summary: A Real Nose in a Book Review: Go Ask Alice is a great book! I don't really like to read but some books that I find are great. I have only found two that I absolutely loved and this was one of them. This book doesn't have chapters and you never really get to a holding point so you just keep reading and reading not knowing when to stop. The first day I picked this up I read 100 pages and it didn't seem like that many at all. Go Ask Alice is a diary of a teenager going through life. The way she writes it makes it sound like you are her best friend and that she is telling you all these things when she is actually writing in her diary. This was an eye-opening book to the dangers that drugs can cause you and what can happen when you experiment with them. I loved this book and would recommend it for anyone especially if you don't like to read and have problems finding good books like I do!
Rating: Summary: The must read diary for teenagers. Review: I think that this book has such a great way of drawing you in. I don't how it does it, but it makes you feel as though you are there with her experiencing everything when she does. The way that she wrote this book/diary makes you feel as though you are a part of the story. She has a way of putting everything so bluntly, but having it not be boring at the same time. For Example, she just comes right out and says how good sex with Richie is, but she also shows you how she feels. "Richie is so good, good, good to me and sex with him is like lighting and rainbows and springtime." She also describes the setting in a unique yet wonderful way-short, but sweet. "We are in San Francisco, in a dirty smelling and stifling one room apartment." With that you start getting an idea and then she gives you the whole picture and makes you feel it, "Everything always feels clammy and damp here. There is even a green type of fungus mold growing in the closet..." She doesn't tell you too much, but at the same time I can still feel as though I'm right there. The plot is also very good. It always keeps you wondering where she is going to go and what she is going to do next. She starts at home, moves with her family, stays with her grandparents for a while, runs away, comes back home, and the book keeps going after all of that. You won't believe where and when it ends. I really did like this book because it was like I was reading about myself. I saw where I had been and what I had done and then I saw where I could have been. It scared me to tell you the truth and I was very greatful that someone did step in when they did so I didn't end up like Alice. Now to the adverage person--especially teens-I think they would really like this book because most can relate themselves to the book or at least one of their friends or family members. Especially in todays world where drugs are so common and everyone just dismisses sex like pennies on the ground. There are some who may not like this book for whatever reason, most likly because they don't relate to it, but those are the few and unique ones. If you are even considering to read this book, I say give it a try. You can always put it down if you don't like it, but if you have ever sat and wondered or just thought about drugs at anytime I would read this book. It give you a whole new out look on your family, love, sex, friends, drugs, and overall life.
Rating: Summary: Go ask ALICE - A (in some parts) true story ? Review: Well, we read about drugs in school, our teacher told us to read the book "Go Ask Alice" and I started to read at it. I read this book when I was 15 and at school and could really relate to what Alice was saying. This is the story of a 15-year-old American drug addict. She is quite good in school and likes her life. But the troubles starts when she takes drugs (LSD) at the first time. Than she gets depressive more and more , because she is addicted to drugs now. She believe that her mother mugs her and her School friends does not behave very gently to her. The escape of all her problems is that she is running away. Than the story gets really interesting and you can't stop reading this very good and well written book. The book is a diary which Alice wrote in the most difficult time of her life. Also it is a fact that this could happen to all of us and it is really important to know what it is like to be a drug addict. The book is to be alone and lost in this huge world and nobody can help you, cause nobody understands your problems and your relationships to other people. Also the book shows, that you can find away out of drug- and family problems. In my opinion the book was pretty good because it also shows the hard way of life in the early 60`s. Also it describes that the relationship between child and mother could be destroyed in the hard years (for both) of the poverty. In this time children often think differently of pretty many thinks and there are many fights between children and parents. Thoughts the end I want to say that this book is really well written and super interesting. Also it is a very good topic in school because we all get confronted with drugs and crime in our school years. Does a escape of this complex situation really exist? Does she really get out of her drug addiction and her other problems? Buy this book and I promise you interesting hours of really good written literature.
