Rating: Summary: mards review Review: I recommend this book Son of the Mob to any one 10 years of age and up. This book is funny and at the same time can draw you in with its seriousness. When he is playing football no one wants to tackle him because they are scared of what his father might do. "I can't explain it right now coach but you have to bench me" says Vince. Yet the book can also be serious, like when Vince and his father are arguing about the problem with Jimmy and Ed "You know who's ripping off Jimmy and Ed so they never got the money to pay you, you are." You can read this book at any time it is a book that you read for fun and to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I would recommed any person, kid or adult to read the book The Son of the Mob by Gordan Korman. It is like a Romeo and Juliet type book. Classic teen love book. Teens can relate to parts of this book.
Rating: Summary: One Of 2002's Best Books For Teens! Review: If you like "The Sopranos" but hate the cursing, this book is for you. Gordon Korman is easily one of the best authors out there, so it's easy to see why his books are so popular. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a few spare hours availible on a Saturday to read. Trust me, once you start it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to stop. You really don't have to know anything about the Mafia to understand this book, it's pretty simple to figure out. You don't have to like Mafia books, "The Godfather", "The Sopranos", or anything related to the Mob. Overall, you'll just love this book. You might be a 13 year old girl from the Midwest or 45 year old billionaire from England, but you'll still love it. It's funny, has romance, and a touch of drama. There are so many highlights about it (The "vending machine" business, iluvmycat.com, Uncle Pampers, and SO MANY MORE!) you'll fall in love after the first page. OK, I'm just babbling on here, so c'mon do yourself a favor! BUY THIS BOOK NOW!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A cops-and-robbers Romeo and Juliet? NAH! Review: Meet 17 year old Vince Luca. Son of one of New York City's top mob bosses, Anthony "Honest Abe" Luca. Although Vince wants nothing to do with his father's buisness, it still mixes into his life some way or another. Like when on one particular date a body was found in his trunk. Like when he finds out the Porshe he got for a birthday present turns out to be stolen. Or when in football he doesn't get tackled because word gets around his father is Anthony Luca. But through all of this Vince deals. That is until he meets Kendra Bightly, whose father happens to be the FBI agent who has been trying to put Vince's dad away for the past 5 years. Isn't that just peachy?Oh My God! This book was hilarious! A definite must read!
Rating: Summary: Could NOT put it down! Review: One scene captures the tone of this book for me: Upon finding a body in the trunk of his car in the company of his hot date, Vince responds to the situation with the first thing that pops into his head - "He's not dead. He's resting." This book was laugh-out-loud funny! As a librarian, I have recommended it to a number of colleages and would enthusiastically give it to anyone who is interested in intelligently written young adult fiction. Son of the Mob would appeal to a wide age range and continually holds interest, never losing pace. It is a story with likeable characters and will keep you laughing to the end.
Rating: Summary: Highly Entertaining Read Review: Son of the Mob is a highly entertaining novel. The book is fun from the very beginning. Vince is in the precarious position of being the son of a mob boss who wants nothing to do with the "family business". The ways in which the "family business" keeps finding its way into Vince's life makes this book fun and unpredictable. The strongest part of this novel is that Gordon Korman is able to take a very common plot line (The mob family) and make it into something very unique and interesting. His modernization of Romeo and Juliet is the best such depiction in a very long time. Once you have read the book, buy the audio book too. Max Casella from Doogie Howser reads the book in his very appropriate New Jersey accent, and the entertainment level just rises. What a great accomplishment by Gordon Korman! This book should be used as a companion for Romeo and Juliet in classrooms all across the nation. If not, Young Adults readers and reluctant readers can definitely get through this page-turning gem of a novel.
Rating: Summary: awesome! Review: Son of the mob is one of the best books I've read. It's got a kind of romeo and juliet vibe, what with the Mob Kings son and the FBI agents daughter yet with fresh wit. Don't let it's look decive you, the 200 sum pages move super quick.
Rating: Summary: "Like Father, like Son" Review: Son of the Mob was an excellent book. I gave it a rating of five, because I felt it did a good job of progosticating what was going to happen next. Vince Luca is nothing like his family and doesn't want to be anything like them either. His father is part of the mob, which deals with tons of secertcy and crime. Vince Luca has a life most kids would love to have. A new mercedes for his birthday, an allowance like you wouldn't believe, and a certain kindness from all of his teachers. It all seems to good to be true and it is. Come to find out his mercedes is stolen, his allowance is a part of his Uncle's murder business, and his dad pays off his teachers so he gets good grades.Even though it's nice to have all these luxuries, it puts serious doubts on ever having a girlfriend. What is he to tell his girlfriend when she asks what his father does for a living? Still say he's part of the "vending machine" service like he was told when he was younger or the truth? Finally when he meets Kendra is she worth the trouble? Her family seems like the biggest problem of all to though, because her father is the FBI agent that wants Vince's father caught.
Rating: Summary: Really great! Review: Son of the Mob was fantastic. I bought this version (on cassette) because I'm a huge Max Casella fan, and he's great - but so is the story! The whole thing is full of comedy. From the first body in the trunk to the last FBI agent, from ilovemycat.usa to Uncle Pampers singing karaoke, the book's super and I couldn't stop listening to it. One of the really great factors was the characters - besides Vince, I really loved how Gordan Korman made Alex. I hope there's a sequel!
