Summary: Amazing!
Review: Sammie's life has been turned upside down. When her father and mother seperates she's uprotted from the town of Ithaca that she's always known and is sent to live with her mother who she dosen't get along with in a small appartment in NY. She hates leaving her best friend, even though her so-called friend is a bit selfish and treats her more just as "someone who will listen" than an actual friend. Once she gets to the city everything changes. Her appartment is tiny and somewhere in the building is a Johnny Deep look a like that she constantly drools over. Her mother's ex-college buddy is inviting her over for dinner at her house and trying to open up. She meets an interesting person on her dog walk that will make a mark on her life. By the time this book has ended she has gained new look on life and has grown in so many ways.

I remember when I first saw this book reccomended to me on amazon.com. I took one look at the title and sort of rolled my eyes at it and didn't give it a second thought. I expected this book to be some goofy teen romance in which an insecure teen moves to the city meets a guy who makes everything magically better and all her problems are gone. The book ends in a school dance in which the main charecter wheres a red dress and everyone loves her. Prepare for the upcoming movie staring Freddie Jr. and Kristen Dunst. But that wasn't what I go. Love and other Four letter words in a touching story about a girl with blazing insecurities who just wants her life to be simpler. The love they talk about in the title is not always the love that we think about when we hear that words. It's more about the love between a mother and a daughter, two best friends, and how people grow apart and together. I found I could relate to the main charecter more than any other book I've ever read. Sammie is ME (except minus the big brests). I reccomend this book to fans of novels like Sloppy Firsts and Hard Love.

Summary: Moderately okay...
Review: It's pretty short, and the writing is quite light, but the story is alright. Mackler manages to breath originality into the story of a teenager having to deal with their parent's separation, and the result is a fairly good book. The main reason that I gave this book 3 stars is that, though I enjoyed it while I was reading it, it's just not four- or five-star material. Though I can relate to some of the things that Sammie had to deal with, she didn't really come alive for me while I was reading this book. This book is for teenage girls who are not looking for a very omplicated book.

Summary: Great First Novel
Review: This novel is a wonderful view into a teenage girl's mind. Being a teenage girl myself, I can testify to the fact that Carolyn Mackler makes an excellent first attempt at showing a young girl's angst.

The story revolves around Sammie Davis and her life in New York City after her parent's try a "trial separation". Sammie's conversations with J.D. that she plays out in her head are just one example of how on target Mackler hits with her portrayal of Sammie.

The reason I only gave this book four stars was for two different reasons. The first one is the secondary characters are underdeveloped. Kitty, Mom, Dad, Phoebe, Elli. They all have a large role in the novel and are talked about quite a bit, but their actions are sometimes confusing because its something that the reader thinks contradicted their earlier description. And you never really get to know them either. The second reason for the four stars is the ending. I'm not going to ruin it for any would-be readers, but the ending was lacking a bit. It ended too abruptly and without closure.

Despite these flaws the book is great. Like I said before, Sammie comes across as a real teen thanks to Mackler's great view into her mind. It's definitely a recomendation for teen girls, although I doubt any other age group's interest in it.

Summary: Great book! Everyone should read!
Review: I'm a teenager who picked up a few books to read over winter break. Carolyn's was the first I read and I loved it! She did a great job of portraying how teenagers feel. It was really easy to relate to Sammie (the main character). Carloyn hit all the major topics for teens: dating, self image, parents, friends, and yourself. She kept it funny and upbeat where some teen books seem to show the depressing side of being a teenager. "Love and Other Four-Letter Words" is a great book for anyone, whether you're a teenager or not!

This book "Love and Other Four Lettered Words" was a phenomonal book, in which I read front to back. Every word was well thought in this book that many people can and may relate to in one way or another. I myself cannot wait for many more of her outstanding books are published. Summary: A real soul book
Review: This book was so well written. The author, was completly amazing, like she was Sammie...and she did such a great job of acting her out. She just totally made the book feel like i was in it. you just get absorbed in it, and it's a book where you can't put it down. This book doesn't deserve 5 stars...it deserves 10847854854789. It was the best book i've ever read, and it's amazing, because i usually don't like books THAT much. If you are thinking about buying this book, it is intellagent, mature, and completly right.

Summary: Almost
Review: I enjoyed this book (see other reviews for
better description of the content), but there are
a few things that bothered me about it. First of
all, there are some unnecessary words and sexual
references that make me uncomfortable putting
this book in my collection at a rather conservative
school. Secondly, I found the ending a bit on
the too good side. She gets a boyfriend and gets
kissed. She fights with her friend, but still
holds out the possibility of making up. Her
parents trial separation may not be permanent.
Everything has some possibly rosy future. A bit
too sweet for me.
