Summary: Phenomenal Book
Review: A great book that tells the life of a teenage boy living without knowing who his true family is and learning to trust his friends as his only family. This book tells how to stand up for yourself and face life, although at times it may be too harsh of a reality. Very interesting book even though it has an abrupt ending. I think the book leaves the ending to the imagination of its readers. Highly Recommended.

Summary: street wise
Review: Hi my name is pedro sainz. I am from Crawford High School. I choose this book because there is a boy that lives with a foster home and he has to live their home and live with other parents. He runs away from home and has to live his own life and he joins a gang. I recommend this book to everyone because it's about a kid that has to live his own life in the outside world and has to know how to survive.

Summary: Great story but not enough
Review: I did not really like the book, Rite of Passage. I thought the story was too short and that the ending was not conclusive enough. All the events of the story happen in less than one day. It could have been developed a lot more. In the story, there were some things that were brought up that seemed would be important later, but as I finished the book I realized they were not mentioned again. Also, there was no real ending to the story. With some literature, this form of ending works well. It sometimes leaves the reader hanging and makes them think. But when I finished this story, instead of that feeling I had more of the feeling, "That's it?"
There were some good points to the story too. One thing was that it caught my sympathy. I felt the same emotions that the characters were feeling. I was worried for them and felt sorry for them! It also made me think about how people are less fortunate, and how other people feel. We see sad people every day, but do we really stop to think about how it would be to be them?
I would not really recommend this book to other people. I thought that it was too depressing and did not have a conclusion! Maybe the reason I did not like it was because I like being happy, but I do not know. I think this would be a great beginning and middle to an interesting book, but it needs something more.

Summary: Rite or Passage
Review: I didn't really like this book. It was kind of sad in the way that Johnny was adopted and he couldn't live with the same family over a certain period of time. I thought it was a little racist how the author had the gang be kids who were black and the victim, someone who was white. There was also a lot of fighting in this book, and what I really didn't like was how Wright ended the book. He ended with Johnny falling into a troubled sleep thinking about the woman who was yelling for them to stop. He said that Johnny just wanted to go home, and quit the gang. It didn't seem like the right ending for a book like that. I wouldn't recommend this book to a student who always wants a happy ending, that's for sure.

Summary: Rite of Passage
Review: I enjoyed this book. I got attached to the characters and I didn't want to put it down. I was refreshed by this book because mecause the main character made one bad decision after another. My only objection is the ending. But after a litle thought I was able to cope with it.

Summary: A.S. Wold Studies Rite of passage
Review: I have read one of theother books written by this author, and loved them, so I thought I would read this one as well. The story was very good. The wording was put a little too simply, but it was an overall good book. It kept me interested, and I didn't put it down until I was done. The only problem was that it was very short, and ended too abruptly. The story didn't exactly end. I would have liked to hear more about what happens to The Moochers. Seeing some sort of conflict would have been nice.

Summary: A thought-provoking novella -- I loved it!
Review: I read this novella for a project in college. I am doing a project on gangs for my pedagogy class (I am a future English teacher). Once I began Rite of Passage, I could not put it down. The character of Johnny is so real and believable and, unfortunately, the situation of run-aways is very real, also. I recommend Rite of Passage to all, and especially to any teacher to teach to a junior high/high school class. I saw some connections in this book to The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (which I also love). A very rewarding read!

Summary: Great...

Summary: AS World Studies review
Review: I thought that Rite of Passage was definately not one of Wright's best works, and certainly wasn't of comparative quality to the rest of Wright's works. Rite of Passage has an excellent plot, but lacks in-depth character development and description; the book isn't very substantive. If the book were longer and more developed, it would be a worthwile book to read. If your looking for a good Richard Wright book to read, try American Hunger, or native son.

Summary: Rite Of Passage
Review: I thought that this was an excellent book. I loved the fact that this was taken place in the ghettos of New York. I also loved the excitement it builded up in me. I couldn't take my hands off of the book. The only one thing that I didn't like was the ending. I didn't like it because I was hoping for him to go back with his family.
