Rating: Summary: Inside The Walls Of Troy Review: I really thought this was a great book, because it was partly from Helen's point of veiw. Not all books about Greeks and Trojans can get inside someones head like that. One of the things that was not quite clear to me though, was that Paris, "Helen's true love" asked Helen to come to Troy with him. In this book, there was no kidnap or forced movment of Helen, she went on her own free will which turned the whole story around. The last half of the book is Cassandra's(Paris' sister)point of view, how she felt about Helen. Cassandra sensed destruction when she first met Helen, but they became friends. This book was a real help to me as a historical fiction project that I'm doing in school. I recommend this book to whoever likes suspense and Greek Mythology.
Rating: Summary: Inside the Walls of Troy - A review Review: This was a very interesting book. It was not the usual happy ever after story where the Prince carries the Princess off and they get married. This tells the story like it actually is. War is not only when the good side wins. The gore, blood, the grime, and sweat of the warriors is told as realistically as possible. This book is about a ten year long war. A young girl named Helen, renowned as the most beautiful women in the world, was married to a man named Menelaus. One day a young handsome stranger named Paris comes along. Helen immediately falls in love with him. Helen and Paris elope together back to Troy. Menelaus is outraged. First he tries to send a delegation to Troy to ask for Helen's return. King Priam, the King of Troy, refuses. Priam loves Helen himself and thinks that she will be the prize of the city. Menelaus declares war on Troy, so Troy and Greeks go to War. The first part of the book, is told by Helen, but then the story switches to Cassandra's point of view. Cassandra is a Trojan woman. She is really stubborn and likes to stand up for what she believes in. Like Helen, she wants control over her own life. Cassandra also had the gift of seeing the future. She predicts that this whole war is going to happen. At first she is a little wary of Helen, but then they grow to be great friends. The only thing that they disagree on is Paris. Cassandra thinks that Paris is lazy and self-centered. Helen thinks that Paris is the most gorgeous and loving person in the world. The war wages on for ten long and weary years. Thousands of men die and no one even knows what it is over anymore. In the end one side wins. To find out read the book! I really liked how Ms. Mclaren told it from two of the womens' points of view. She really described how they were thinking and feeling. I think I liked it from Cassandra's story better then Helen's. Cassandra is more of a deep person. Helen is rather shallow and only cares about looks more than feelings. She regrets going over to Paris, now that this whole war has started over her. The only part of the book that left me hanging was the ending. WHAT HAPPENS TO CASSANDRA? I have just got to find out. I don't like any of the suggestions in the epilogue. I think that Ms. Mclauren should write a new book about what happens to Cassandra. She should make it up herself and not refer to Homer's book at all. Read this book if you like epic tales!
Rating: Summary: Helen'e War Review: I thought that this book was really good. It showed how in the olden days were like for a women. I called my review Helen's War because it was like the war was for Helen. She ran away with Paris because she was not happy with Menanlaus. So when she was with Paris in Troy Menalaus wanted her back so they started a whole war to try to see who would get her. The author of Inside the Walls of Troy Clemence McLaren came to our school. She seamed very nice she was at our school because she wanted to disguss her book with us. She had to do a lot of work to make sure that the book was trutful. She was a really nice person and all the work that she did to make this book was wroth it.
Rating: Summary: REVIEW OF INSIDE THE WALLS OF TROY Review: Inside the Walls of Troy was a great book! At my school it is mandatory to read this book, but I found it to be a very intersting book. I never had seen a book of the Trojan War, from the womens' point of view. Reading this book was a lot of fun, and it taught me a lot about women in the past.
Rating: Summary: This book scores a 11/10 Review: The book Inside the Walls of Troy is a very interesting book because it gives a different perspective of life Inside the Walls of Troy. Clemence McLaren does a marvolous job on describing the different charcters. Everybody who is interested to the Trojan war should experience this book.
Rating: Summary: Varo's Review Review: I myself, believe that this was an exellent story. It portrayed the life of how women were treated and lived during the time of the Trojan war. I learned a lot of information from this book, it was a very good introduction into the Trojan War. Not only did this book teach teach me a lot if things, it also told me the story of women during that time. Like I previously stated, I believe this was an exellant book. I will rate it a five star rating, but you should read it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Chops' Review Review: Vell, I thought this book vas made vedy vell. From the close details, to the specific ideas. Clememence Mclaren, vell, how do you say, made it as if you vere there, living the Trojan Var. I thought she ingeniously came up vith the idea of having the story told from 2 major points of views. Clemence Mclaren made Helen of Sparta, seem like somebody else. She's wasn't AS snobby as I believe her to be. Helen also had a personality. It vas very interesting to see how the two main charachters (Helen and Cassandra), interacted. Helen and Cassandra, to me, didn't get along too vell. Cassandra constantly disliked Helen from the time she met because she knew the problems Helen would cause Troy. Also, I enjoyed how Clemence Mclaren showed how detailed each scence vas. The duel between Hector and Ajax vas exciting. She cleverely explained how the two armies, (Greece and Troy) She explained how each person, made each person, seem like SOMEbody. I recommend this book if you'd like to know the history of the Trojan Var from a different point of view. I enjoyed it very much. I gave the book 4 stars, but it may depend on how you look at it. Read it, for a new very interesting experience. Ova and out!
Rating: Summary: Alex's Review Review: An extremely good job from author Clemence McLaren. Finally a book of the women's opion and readers may see how this war distroyed Troy from a women's point of view. Men would just focus on the actual war and all the bloody gresum sceens of the war. But in Clemence McLaren's book she focuses on how the women reacted to the war. Helen, Clemence McLaren made her not real snobby and just loves herself because she knows that she is the most beautiful woman in the world. But Helen actually thinks of her beauty as a horid curse. I thought that was better, because of the fact that she was so innocent and nice she was able to get a long with the charater Cassandra.
Rating: Summary: Jess's Fantastic Review Review: Wasup! Here's a little taste of Hawaiian style reviews. This book was jammin! Clemence was nice enough to come and visit us at our school, and let us ask her questions about her book and what concerend us and what we were confused about and everything! She was really cool and so is her book. I was hooked on it to the point where I couldn't put it down, and believe me, you don't usualy see me reading a book. Anyone who likes a romantic, adventurous, exciting, thrilling story, this is a book for you. I don't want to give away the plot or anything...but there's this one part in the story when Paris and Menelaus are fighting for Helen and all of her wealth...and it's soooooo exciting! Then when Aphrodite breaks the head strap, you sigh in relief because you know that the mighty, dashyingly handsome, brave, seductive Paris won't get killed. Then there's another time in the stroy when Achilles kills Hector and ties him to his chariot and rides around the walls of Troy for ten days, putting the Trojans through sorrow as they watch they're most prized fighter, being dragged around and around they're own walls. It was very exciting...I was really sad when the book ended and begged my mom to buy me the next of her books...which is Waiting for Oddysseus. I'm half way through that one as well...it's really good too, I'm sure that you all would like that one as well. Anyways, the book was really good and I give it five stars...read it! Buy it! You guys'll love it! I promise! *Happyface808
Rating: Summary: Estupendo Review: I thought the book Inside the Walls of Troy was excllent. I was suprised to find that the story was told from the ladies' point of view. Usually in the Greek mythology books, it is about some famous character that is in the battle. This story is really unique. It has a diffrent prespective of the battle. My favorite part of the book was when Helen is kidnapped by Theseus. I disliked the fact that Helen had suitors at age 12. Then when she was 13 she was married off to Menelaus a man she didn't love. A person that I really disliked was Paris. He was such a confident, sassy, back stabbing guy. He stole Helen and caused dishonor to his family. He is such a brat. To find out more about this book read it. It is one of the best Trojan war books written.
