Rating: Summary: One of My Absolute Favorite Series/Books! Review: After Jess got back from working as a camp counselor at Lake Wawasee in Code Name Cassandra, Jess had two choices: work the hot plate at her father's restaurant or go to the Michigan dunes with her best friend Ruth Abramowitz. This may seem like a no brainer choice, but Ruth's dad doesn't believe in cable, won't allow a phone at the house except for his cell for emergencies, and her best friend Ruth is busy going out with her boyfriend the whole time. But when Jess found out that her Great-aunt Rose would be coming to watch Jess and her older brother Doug while her parents took her brother to Harvard, playing endless video games with Skip, Ruth's geeky older brother, started to look pretty good. Needless to say, Jess had no idea that Amber Mackey went missing while she was on vacation and it was grossly unfair of everyone to blame her for not being there to find her. Hello, Jess had already told everyone that she had lost her powers, why was everyone blaming her? Karen Sue Hanky. The lousy snitch had told everyone about how she found a missing kid at camp and now all of the popular kids are blaming Jess for not saving Amber. Jess has no idea who would want to kill a popular cheerleader and leave her body at the bottom of the quarry, but she feels that she is obligated to find out. When another cheerleader goes missing, Heather Montrose, one of the most popular girls in school, Jess knows that she has to do something. But how can she find Heather without revealing that she still has her psychic powers to the Feds? When Jess is able to find out, though, she knows that she has no choice but to go and rescue Heather - no one should have to go through the agonies that Heather is! Jess quickly drags Rob, her would be boyfriend if he would just get a clue, out to an abandoned shack where they find Heather. Jess is counting on Heather to turn her kidnappers over to the police, but Heather is too scared. Jess knows that she is the only one who can track down the people in her own town who are capable of committing these terrible crimes, but is it worth the price she will have to pay? This is the third book in the "Lightning Girl" or 1-800-WHERE-R-U series and it is just fabulous! Meg Cabot/Jenny Carroll has created one of my favorite series with this one and I simply love Jess as a heroine. Jess is funny, smart, tough and not afraid to say or do exactly what she is thinking. She always makes me laugh when I read her stories - whether she is trying to finagle Rob into dating her, get her older brother Doug out of his room or beat up Karen Sue Hankey, she is always entertaining and fun to read about. This is an absolute must read series if you have liked any of Cabot/Carroll's other books. Highly recommended for everyone!
Rating: Summary: Just keeps getting better Review: Book 3 in the 1-800-WHERE-R-You series is the best one yet!!! Safe House has it all--humor, suspense, mystery, and as in all of Jenny Carroll/Meg Cabbot's books, a bit of romance. I can't wait for Book 4, Sanctuary!!!! My best friend hates to read and I made her read Book 1 in this series, and now she is begging me to borrow the others!!! You will not be sorry if you buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Lame Plot, Sloppy Writing Review: I had moderately high hopes for this series and definately enjoyed the previous two books (When Lightning Strikes and Code Name Cassendra), however this book is a disappointment. The first third of the book basically rehashes everything we already know, while ruining Jess' tomboy image. Suddenly she is wearing mini-skirts and sweater-sets. Yuck. And although she is still throwing punches I mourned Jess' transformation into some sort of girl that cared about what she wore, especially since it seemed aimed at getting guys. The plot was pretty lame. A girl from her school is found murdered and subsequent classmates go missing. Can Jess use her powers to find them? You'll spot the villian a mile away and the time you spend waiting for Jess to figure it out will bore you. Where the first two books had a twist to the situation, such as Sean was missing but didn't want to be found for very good reasons, this is a straight forward, afterschool-special type scenario. I also have to point out that Espirit clothing was fashionable when I was a kid, like 15 years ago, and some of her other expressions are equally dated. 'Cherried out", "mint", etc. are old, (one hesitates to say old-fashioned) and at one point she used the word "propers". No, no, no! It's "props"! This is an area that could use some work. There are also some sloppy writing errors having to do with continuity from the previous books that probably aren't the worst things to have happened but they bothered me and that affected my overall enjoyment of the book. Do Ruth and Jess practice in their bedrooms or the living room? Does Rob wear a jean jacket, a leather jacket or a jean jacket? I realize that Carroll is trying to juggle multiple series here but it isn't exactly like she's writing War and Peace either. If you've read the other books in the 1-800-WHERE-R-U series you'll probably want to read this one anyway as there are major developments in the larger plot arc of the series, such as: will the new dimensions of Jess'powers help her or hurt her? Will her mom find out about Rob? Will the nefarious FBI duo of Johnson and Smith finally trick her into working for them? You'll have to read the book to find out. Still, if you're new to the series start with the first book and go in order. And please Jenny, if you decide to write a fourth installment, turn off the writing auto-pilot.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: I just finished reading "Safe House," the 3rd installment of Jenny Carroll's 1-800-where-R-you series. I am amazed. I usually don't get into series, but I was recommended these books by a friend and now I can't get enough of them. For those of you who don't know, Jenny Carroll also writes under the name Meg Cabot (author of the critically acclaimed Princess Diaries series). After reading the 3rd book in the Princess Diaries series (princess in love), I can honestly say that I liked Safe House much better. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, a great mystery, things that will make you laugh and cry, and on top of it all Rob does some extremely cute stuff. So if you haven't read this yet, I highly recommend it, and if you're debating about reading the series, go ahead and pick up a copy of the 1st book (When Lightning Strikes). You're sure to enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: Safe House Review: In Safe House, sequel to Code Name Cassandra, Jessica Mastriani must once again fend off the FBI. After getting struck by lightning and discovering her new ability to dream the exact location of anyone whose name or picture she sees Jess is forced by the ever present reporters to take up the FBI on its offer to study her power away from home. After escaping from the FBI with the help of her crush, Ron, and fooling the world into thinking that her power has disappeared when she returns from summer vacation it turns out that almost everyone is blaming her for the death of a popular cheerleader days before. Apparently they decided she hadn't lost her power when the cheerleader disappeared and bombarded her house with pleas for help, but her housesitting aunt refused to give them her number. Now the cheerleaders football playing boyfriend is taking her out to pizza to pump her for info on the Feds, her best friends brother is in love with her, her brother is a suspect in the cheerleaders death, her arch enemy is sueing her for breaking her nose, and another girl has turned up missing. How is Jess, who is not exactly a subtle person, supposed to deal with this and still manage to convince the world and her own surveillance team from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that she is unable to find people? I love all of Jenny Carroll's books. This one is no exception.

Rating: Summary: The exciting third book of the 1-800-Where-R-You series. Review: Jess is starting school with the hope that she'll finally have a better image -- such as not not fighting all the time and being a little more toned down. But, of course, Jess can never hope to ever have a good life, because as soon as she arrives in school, everyone is blaming her for the murder of a cheerleader that took place just a day before school. Jess discovers that she's being blamed because everyone knows that she's "Lightning Girl" and should have done something with her powers to stop the murder, and that it was her fault that the student was murdered. Jess still wants to keep her identity secret, naturally, and she'd rather have it that her psychic powers aren't know to anyone. But when it starts to become obvious that the killer will strike again, Jess realizes that she must use her psychic abilities to stop the murders once and for all, if she isn't killed in the process. Jess is determined to keep her secret but also stop the murders from happening again, and yet, little does Jess realize that she's being stalked as well. Safe House, the thrilling third book of Jenny Carroll's 1-800-Where-R-You series, is a refreshing blast of a book, and while it's a serious plot, it still has some hilarious moments in the witty writing that Jenny Carroll is famous for -- if you've read The Mediator series, then the three books of the 1-800-Where-R-You series are no doubt just as fun and enjoyable to read.
Rating: Summary: A Great Addition To The Series Review: Jess Mastriani was on vacation when Amber Mackey, a popular cheerleader went missing, and was eventually found dead, but that's no excuse for Jess. She should have known about it and found her before the tragedy. But, Jess has a chance to redeem herself now that another popular cheerleader, Heather Montrose, disappears. It's now up to Jess to find Heather before it's too late, and gain popularity and respect at Ernest Pyle High School. But sometimes the things that sound the easiest are actually the hardest. This is another great addition to the 1-800-WHERE-R-U series. I recommend this to any fan of paranormal/science fiction.
Rating: Summary: This book was hilarious, one of the best i ever read Review: Jessica gets back to school after 2 weeks of vacation to find out that one of her classmates was found dead. Not only was one of her classmates murdered, but Jessica's classmates were blaming her for the death. After another one of her classmates is missing, Jessica decides she must use her abilities to find the missing again, of course, with out the feds finding out. But when Jessica finds her missing classmate, she soon realizes that she may end up just like one of her classmates. Soon attacks are being aimed at her family and Jessica knows she needs to take action.
I loved this book. It was the best. I love Jessica's attitude towards things. I love how she doesn't take crap from others and how tough she is. The relationship between her and Rob get stronger and funnier. And Jessica actually starts wearing girly stuff. This book is hilarious and will shock you in the end.
Rating: Summary: Another great addition! Go Jenny Carroll! Review: Junior year is starting! And Jess wants to start it off right. No fist fights! No detention! But all her plans change when people start blaming her for the death of a popular cheerleader who was killed while Jess was away that summer. Then another cheerleader, Heather Montrose, turns up missing. Now it's up to Jess to make sure Heather doesn't end up dead too. To make matters worse Karen Sue is sueing Jess for punching her in the nose. Not only that but Douglas is a suspect in the case. Not to mention the death threats Jess keeps recieving. What's a girl to do? Another great book. Rob was so awesome in this book. I can't wait for Sanctuary, Book 4!
