Rating: Summary: An inspiring book about character - and how to grow it! Review: This was a book I read in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. The story is captivating and above all, inspiring. 'Way beyond being a Holocaust story, it is a story showing that courage and moral fortitude are the products of a habit of being faithful in the little challenges of life.

Rating: Summary: in my hands Review: Tiffany from MMS I read a book called "In My Hands" The author of it is a lady by the name of Irene Gut Opdyke. "In My Hands" is one of my favorite books about the Holocaust. "In My Hands" has a great vocabulary, and it describes everything that happened in the holocaust so well. I showed it to the people in my family they said that it looks like a fun book to read! They said that the cover really caches the eye. The book is about a teenage girl named Irene, which is Jew. And being a 17 year old blonde with blue eyes, she get a job as a waitress for one of the sergeants. She starts of little by slowly feeding the people in the gettos left over food. Then she risks being killed by helping a little of the Jews out of the gettos. This is a wonderful book about the Holocaust. It will help you see the Holocaust the ways that the Jews saw it. I would recommend this great book to anyone. It has a little something in it, for everybody.
Rating: Summary: i think this would be a great book Review: well, i'm very grateful that i have met irene gut opdyke. i met her last week. she was a friend of my classmate's family. she told us her story orally. it really touched me and everyone else who was with me. it was really sweet that she gave her spare time to share her story to us even though she had gone to a surgery a day before we met her. i didn't realize how tragic her life was until i met her. she truly deserves to be a hero.
Rating: Summary: A tale that will take your heart away Review: Who would have thought that such a young girl could show such courage in this kind of pressure and dilema. This is the story of a young girl torn between saving herself or saving others and the sacrifices she takes. It is moving and interesting. If I could read more about this story I surely would.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids: In My Hands by Irene Gut Opdyke Review: You can read any of the reviews already posted to Amazon.com for a good idea of the storyline of this amazing book. I have only this to say: adult readers, please do not be put off because In My Hands is categorized as Young Adult Fiction. It is outstanding reading for adults as well, and will give you a new perspective on courage. As echoed by others who have read In My Hands, I simply could not put it down, and yes, it would make a marvelous movie. I do have one suggestion: the authors have included two helpful guides--one about the Polish and German languages, and the other showing maps. Both are oddly located at the very end of the book. You might want to read this informative material before you start the book. I'm torn between sharing this book by donating it to my local library, and keeping it to cherish!
