Rating: Summary: Need A Lift? Review: Any one needing a spirtual lift and feels that nothing in their life can go right and that they have the worst life in the world needs to read this book. This book is about a young boy who is sent to a "camp" and instead is expected to dig a hole as long, wide, and deep as his shovle every day in the blazing hot sun!
Rating: Summary: 'Holes', the book i could never put down! Review: Holes is a book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, who's family has a bad history of luck. When i first saw Holes i thought , nah it's probaly boring, but i was definitly wrong! I was on the internet, looking up a Harry Potter website, i am a major fan!, when i saw a list of books for people who are finished the series, and low and behold there was Holes!, so i decided to try it. I was hooked after the first few pages! It was an exiting book full of twists and unexpected adventors, a book that will make you laugh, and at times make you cry. So now, i definitly go by the saying never judge a book by it's cover. :)
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful Review: Holes is a riveting tale about a boy named Stanley Yelnats that is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Louis Sachar used three stories in one to keep you in suspense about how the story was going to come to an end. I love the humor behind the names of the boys in Camp Green Lake. This tale made me turn the pages. I read this book to my 6th grade classroom. They did not want me to stop; they just wanted to hear more. Fantastic novel for children to read.
Rating: Summary: i loved it! Review: I am Andrew Keller and I read holes in my language arts class. I thought it was a very exciting book and it is also such a good book that a teacher from my middle school said that it was one of her favorite book ever. It is a story about Stanley Yelnats and his troubles. One day he is walking and a famous pair of shoes land on his head. He soon goes to a detention camp where he will soon find out about his past and find the solution to all of his problems. I have also read a few other books by the same author (Louis Sachar) and though they were great. Everyone that I know that has read holes thought that it was a great book and so do I.
Rating: Summary: Never judge a book by its cover! Review: Trust me, when I saw this on the book of the Newberry Winners, I was thinking.. "What kind of award-winning book would be about diging holes?".. but I thought if it won the award, it should be good since it picks out the best of the best. This was an excellent book and shows the relationship that can spark between two totally different people. The book is about exactly whats on the cover, digging holes. Stanley goes to a camp as a punishment and must dig holes everyday ending up being the slowest hole digger. Th book changes into a suspenful action type book when he tries to find out what the real reason for all this was and helps a 'kid that never talks' on the way and sparks a relation with him.
Rating: Summary: the best review Review: HOLES By Louis Sachar, 232 pgs. Holes is a book that includes everythimg you could want in a book. Its got action, adventure, suspense, homor, and even some horror. Stanley Yelnats got sent to a juvenile correction center called Camp Greenlake. It was all because of some famous basketball players shoes fell from the sky. The police thought he did it so he was sent there. Stanley becomes very good friends with a kid named Zero. Most days while stanley is digging his hole he will think back on stories about his ancestors and Kissin Kate Barlow. Zero and Stanley get in a lot of trouble at Camp Greenlake. It was a great book and everybody should read it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: Holes is the story of Stanely Ylenats, a boy sent to camp green lake, only nothings green and there's no lake. A wonderful tale of courage and hope. A book that shows true friendship. I absoutly loved this book. The book has a wonderful ending that really ties everything together. A must read for all ages
Rating: Summary: A must-read! Review: My fifth-graders love Louis Sachar, and he has really outdone himself with Holes. We are reading the book during our morning snack time, and the students groan when we have to stop! The idea of including two (or more) stories in one makes the book interesting, as we read on to see what will happen next. Stanley is a hero to all teachers as he takes the time to teach his fellow inmate, Zero, how to read and write, never knowing the deeper connection he has to this boy. I am hoping for a sequel...My students will be as anxious to find out what happens to Stanley as they are to know more about Bradley Chalkers in There's A Boy in the Girl's Bathroom.
Rating: Summary: I finally got their attention! Review: I was looking for a book that would catch the attention of my sixth grade boys. Their complaint was that we read only "girlie" books. Well, HOLES by Louis Sachar did the job. It is a book about a young boy who must suffer through the agony of his mistakes, but finds companionship through his peers. The story is written in a language that the kids understand, and has relevancy for them. It is up to the minute for all students of this age. I am glad to have found such a book. Since beginning to read this, I have had my class buy several copies at the Book Fair that was held at school. Most of them finished the book on their own. These same boys were the ones who complained about the types of books we read. Hurray for the book, and hurray for my class. I will continue to use this book as a springboard to get the kids "wanting to read."
Rating: Summary: Not as good as everyone said Review: "You HAVE to read this!", or, "You can't put it down it is so good!". These were the quotes of my friends that were said to me. Those quotes won't be repeated by me. Ok, I'm a teenager, and this was supposed to be the best book of the year! All it was about was this Stanley guy who dug holes as a punishment for stealing a pair of famous shoes! I mean come on! Then, he see's this mountain shaped like a thumbs up and it inspired him! Geez! I had to write a book report on the lame book, and I had to draw what I thought the cover would be. I just drew a boy who dug holes, and mountains in the backround. It said it all! And even more, my teacher agreed! I was also very astonished that it has recieved the Newbery Award! I hope that the judges won't pick something as bad next year to be the prized book of the year! So in conclusion, I am immediatly switching over to Harry Potter for real reading enjoyment!P.S.- Two Thumbs DOWN!
