Rating: Summary: Almost real-life story, but fiction Review: Are you the kind of type you seem to be at the wrong place at the wrong time? Or are you the kind of type you seem to be at the right place at the right time? Either way, this book, Holes, by Louis Sachar, is for you. This book is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, who seems to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, every time. Such is the case when a shoe falls from the sky and hits him on the head. That happened to be a famous baseball player's shoe, and he was arrested. Fortunately, he had a choice to go to a camp called "camp green lake. gSounds good? It wouldn't anymore when you get to stay there for 18 month. Plus, he was innocent! There, juvenile criminals dig HOLES (as in the title) to build character. You think you could dig holes on a lake? Perhaps not. But what if the lake dried up? That's exactly what happened. It never rained after a certain event happened in Camp Green Lake. The warden has something up her sleeve by letting the kids dig holes everywhere... The Yelnats family blames it on his No-good-pig-stealing-grandfather, who they think cursed the whole generation of the Yelnats family. There are 3 stories going on in this book. 1. Now, where Stanley is at the camp.2. The past where Stanley's great-great-great grandfather takes place in Europe, at around 25. 3. The green lake where the great-great-great grandfather moved to America. He is around 35. The lake was still there at that time. All of the stories relates to each other. So itfs pretty fun comparing how the past affected the future. Stanley learns lots of lessons there- he also makes new friends with very weird nicknames with different personalities. And Stanley finds his destiny at the camp. This is an awesome book, but for some people, it might be confusing. Also, There are too many characters to remember. But besides that, this book is one of the best Ifve ever read. Also, trust me, this is one of the few books I WANT TO READ ON MY OWN because although it is fiction, it has a touch of mystery, and a handful of comedy in the book. The movie for HOLES came up too, so you should watch that too. I recommend the book for everyone, even adults.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Book Review: Holes By: Louis Sachar Another great book by Louis Sachar. "Holes" is a book about a boy, named Stanely Yelnats, who got in trouble and had a choice to get sent to a camp or go to jail. He had never been to a camp becore because his parents could not afford it. So instead of him going to jail he choose to go to camp. This camp was called, "Camp Green Lake." Once he got there and met the "Boss" he asked, where's the lake. The Boss got a kick out of that. "Camp Green Lake" is not a camp for fun and games, it is a camp for kids who have done something bad. The boys requierments were to dig a hole that is 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep (one hole for each boy). Stanley and the rest of the boys at the camp were to dig that hole and they could not eat or take a shower untill the hole was dug. Once they accomplished the hole they could go take a 3-5 minute shower and get soemthing to eat. Stanley had to do this for about 1 year. One day Stanley got sick of digging holes and ran away. After about 1-2 days without water or food. Stanley reached the top of a mountain and found berries and water. He spent the night on that mountain and the next morning he headed out to try to get home. Stanley accomplised to get home and he also got everone else that was at the camp home to their families. Stanley had defenitly learned a lesson! I really liked this book and would recomend it to anyone... young and elderly.
Rating: Summary: One of the best reads Review: This book is one of the best that I have read in a while. Definately worth the time, Holes brings the story of Stanley Yelnats, a boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn't do. It's all because of his no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-grandfather, who supposedly had a curse put on their whole family generations ago. Stanley and his fellow detainees at Camp Green Lake have to dig a hole every day, for supposedly building character, but the Warden has something else on her mind which is revealed through the constant time changes from present to past. The book leaves you thinking, which is a wonderful way for a book to leave you. Though hard-to-put-down at times, the book is a must-read for all teenagers, and an excellent one for anyone looking to pass their time.

Rating: Summary: Great and Exciting Book! Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was very interesting and suspenseful. The book Holes was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. His last name is his first name spelled backwards. He is taunted and teased at school because of his size and weight. One day while walking home from school, a pair of shoes fell onto his head. The police caught him and he was accused of stealing the shoes. He went to court and he was sentenced to go to a juvenile boy's camp called Camp Green Lake. Here the boys had a to dig a hole everyday that was 5 feet wide by 5 feet deep. Their shovel was their measuring tool. All the boys at the camp had nicknames. Stanley was named "Caveman". He made friends with a boy named "Zero". "Caveman" helped teach "Zero" how to read and "Zero" helped "Caveman" dig holes faster. I think this book was really exciting and you should buy it.

Rating: Summary: My Book Review on Holes Review: The book I am reviewing is Holes. The author is Louis Sachar. I am giving this book five stars because it has lots of adventure, action, and more. The story is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats that is framed. The police think he stole the shoes. Then he goes to court. They think he is guilty, so he goes to Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is kind of a jail for boys. It's a dessert and they dig holes five feet deep and five feet wide. There's a curse on the Yelnats family. Their great, great grandpa wants to get married to a beautiful woman. So he goes to a fortune teller, Madam Zeroni. She says take that small pig, carry the pig up the mountain every day. Then when he is fat carry me up the mountain. If you forget to come back for me your family will be cursed for ever and eternity. So he carried the pig up the mountain the last day he didn't go back because he didn't want to smell bad before he saw her. Read the book to find out more.
