Rating: Summary: Deserving of Every Honor It Received Review: With "Holes" Louis Sachar has provided young adult readers (9 to 14) a novel that should not be overlooked by parents, teachers and librarians. The awards committees got it right when Mr. Sachar was honored for this volume, about a young man sent to a prison camp for a crime he did not commit -- a prison camp that had a set of oddities that made for a gripping plot. Let's be honest: Sachar is a pro when its comes to young adult fiction; this is not his first book. But, without question, it is his best.
Rating: Summary: Life lessons Review: Holes is about this kid who goes to juvie for stealing a famous person's shoes. When he get there he finds out how hard juvi can get. I think that it is a great book, thought it is more for a guy than a girl. I hope that you take the chance to read this great book.
Rating: Summary: stanley's a keeper Review: My 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son loved this book, and so did my wife and I. You get caught up with the falsely accused Stanley and the others at the camp, and seemingly insignificant details become quite significant by the end of the story. A well-plotted and entertaining book, with a good message about the value of persistence and treating others with respect.
Rating: Summary: For want of a better title... Great! Review: This book has outstanding character development, plot twists. The plot is clever, complex, and ironic. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: This was great. Review: I like the book Holes because it is about this boy calledStanley and he is accused of stealing very expensive shoes. He goesto trial and is proved guilty. Stanley had a choice, he could go to jail or to go to Camp Green Lake. Stanley chose to go to Camp Green Lake and made some new friends called Zero, Magnet, etc. Later in the story, Stanley tries running away. I really like this book.
Rating: Summary: Even though it's an easy-to-read book, it's very good Review: Holes is an easy-to-read book, but that doesn't mean it isn'tgood. Holes really helps to find yourself, because it is a book abouta boy who finds out who he is the hard way.Everything is important in this book, so it is a good idea to look for connections through the many flashbacks it has. If you do that while reading, you will enjoy it more. I reccommend anyone should read Holes. There are so many morals in it, and at the same time it is very enjoyable. As soon as you get finished reading it, I think you will see why I like it so much. END
Rating: Summary: We loved Holes! Review: I am a mom who read this book right after my 9 year old daughter finished it in 3 days. We both agree that it was a wonderful book, full of suspense, human awareness, and much more. It reminds me of the feelings I used to have reading Kurt Vonnegut's books in the 70's. I recommend it for any child who likes to explore and analyze plots and relationships.
Rating: Summary: It was OK Review: This wasn't my kind of book. I had heard a lot of wonderful reviews and comments about it, so I thought why not? I'm sure that many people thought this a wonderful novel, but I prefer something with a more educated and fantastic air to it. I'm very sorry, but a book about a boy who has to dig a certain size hole for 18 months straight doesn't interest me at all. Other people may have found this book wonderful and intelligent, I found it stupid and plotless.
Rating: Summary: Read this book! Review: I've always enjoyed Louis Sachar books, but this has to be the best he's ever done. The ingenius plot runs through the entire book, from the first page to the last. The setting is a place called Camp Green Lake, a sort of Juvenile Hall. However, there is no lake, and green shrubbery and trees don't exist for miles around. When young Stanley Yelnats is falsley accused of stealing a pair of incredibly valuable tennis shoes, he is sent there to work alongside other delinquents. Their job every day is to dig a hole, five feet wide and five feet deep. This soon becomes part of the daily routine, along with evading snakes, scorpions, deadly yellow spotted lizards, and the camp warden who paints her fingernails with rattlesnake venom. He is soon accepted into the gang of preteen criminals. He befriends a young man nicknamed "Zero," a supposedly stupid and ignorant nobody with no parents or family. As he and Zero learn more and more about the forces behind Camp Green Lake, they discover a devious plan, based on greed and cruelty, to find a legendary treasure... This book is a mystery, a comedy, and a suspense thriller all rolled into one. Some of the writing is a little confusing, so I wouldn't recomend it to anyone younger than 10. Over all, this is a great book.
Rating: Summary: HOLESHOLESHOLESHOLESHOLESmoreHOLES Review: I liked the action and adventure in this book. Stanley must have been day dreaming when he ran the water truck into the hole. My favorite part of the book were the reflections to the Yelnats history and the no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. I wonder how the sloosh tasted? I recommend this story to other people.
