Rating: Summary: This book is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE, hands down!!!! Review: OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!! this is totally the best, most touching, most loveable books EVER! The first time, I read it, I was like oh sure its gona be really stupid. Boy was I wrong by 100%! Nyle is confident, tomboyish, independent, and at the same time she's got emotions tangled up inside of her that no one understands but her. She leads a really simple life, living with her grandmother, raising sheep. Then this really big nuclear accident happnes and many people are left homeless and sick. A fourteen (I'm pretty sure it's 14) year old boy who has radiation posioning and his mother come to stay at Nyle and her grandmother's house, in this back room where her mother and grandfather both died. At first, she like doesn't like Ezra (The sick boy) because she's afraid to get close and then have him die on her. There are parts that are so touching. I still cry at the part when he writes her the letter, and at the end.(*not telling!*) There are other parts that make you happy and you know, all excited. Like when he learns to drive the truck. If you want to read this book, kudos to you!!! It's totally awesome! It's the best book I've ever read, & I've read alot of good books in my life. I still cry every time I read the two parts I mentioned. My copy's cover almost fell off, it's so worn, because I've read it so many times. Read this book, you'll love it, you'll laugh, cry, and enjoy this wonderful, touching, book.

Rating: Summary: What a GREAT book! Review: In the novel Pheonix Rising, by Karen Hesse, Nyle and her grandmother live on a sheep farm near a nuclear plant that has a radiation leak. They take in two evacuees, a boy, Ezra, about Nyle's age, and his mother. Ezra has soaked an unhealthy amount of radiation, having lived near the plant, and now his mother, Nyle, and Nyle's grandmother are basically trying to make Nyle's death as comfortable as possible. Nyle doesn't want anything to do with Ezra, she doesn't want to feel the pain of his death. But when she develops a friendship with him, and he starts to slowly recover, she begins to get used to having Ezra around. This book was very moving and well-written. It really opens the reader's eyes to the dangers of our world today. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this story is that the situation described could easily happen to of us today; a horrible life in a book could easily become a nightmare of reality. Imagine a world where you can't leave your house without wearing a gauze mask to prevent breathing in radiation. Where the thousands of people living within a 5 mile radius around a nucleur power plant are infected with a deadly disease instantly, and have to leave everything they own behind, and seek refuge with total strangers. Where hospitals are filled to capacity with patients waiting to die. This was where Nyle and Ezra had to live, and where we could easily live, too. It's scary to think about the seriousness of this novel. I personally liked the author's writing style. The action moves quickly, and the relationships between the characters are well-developed. The author's vivid descriptions help to convey a sense of urgency to the audience. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what kind of book you like, because this book can be classified as a romance, a sciens fiction, and even a tear-jerker. It's a quick, easy read, and everyone should receive the lessons this story teaches. This book will leave you thinking, and you may even feel compelled to try to make a difference in our world. This book is well-worth the time and money to read, and I hope you'll heed my advice and read it.
Rating: Summary: Phoenix Rising review Review: I have recently finished reading the book, Phoenix Rising. It is a book that is easy reading, and I'd highly recomend it to the junior high level readers. Nyle, is at her home when a local nuclear power plant explodes, and leaks radiation. Ezra moves into Nyle's house after being affected by the radiation. Through Ezra's recovery, Nyle slowly falls in love with him and they become great friends. Nyle goes through a great amount of turmoil throughout this book. Tragically, Nyle realizes how painful life can be. This book sheds light on what all would happen to the natural enviornment and to people's lives if there really was a nuclear power plant explosion.
Rating: Summary: A horrid thing Review: This book was one of the worst I have ever read. Sorry to say I am giving the book way too much credit even giving it one star. If I were you I would not read this book. The only reason I read it was because I had to. It is extremely slow and has no action. And unless you love sick love stories that are boreing beyond anything I would stay away from Phoenix Rising.
Rating: Summary: Is Phoenix Rising a good book? Review: In my personal opinion I thought this book was very slow moving and nothing excited happened until the end. In fact, the climax of the book was not until about the last chapter. I would not reccomend this book to other people. I do not think it was as good a book as everyone thinks it is. I hope you support my opion and do not read this book.
Rating: Summary: This is THE best book! Review: This is probably the best book I have ever read. It is a tale of love, depression, a girl and her family, and a girls problems with her friends. The only problems I had with this book is that I wanted Ezra to be real and it is really sad and depressing at the end. All in all, this was a wonderful book. Thank you Karen Hesse!
Rating: Summary: Radioactive Sheep Review: I read the book Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse. I read this book because it interested me. I read this book in late November and throughout December. I recommend this book to others because it is a great book. I would not recommend this book to some people if they are not interested in it. I relate to this book because I live near a nuclear power plant. My father also works at a nuclear power plant.
Rating: Summary: Emotional story that grips you to the end Review: Thirteen-year-old Nyle and her Grandmother are living in a world of nuclear fall-out, protective masks, and fear. Into this world steps Ezra and his mother. Evacuees from the nuclear melt-down, Ezra and his mother stay with Nyle and her Grandmother. But Nyle is afraid to open-up to Ezra. But as she is slowly drawn into his life, she comes to see that friendship and love are worth every moment. The book is filled with poignent moments of discovery and bravery. The friendship between Nyle and Muncie, a girl with over-protective parents and problems of her own, provides ample learning opportunities.Overall, Phoenix Rising is a gripping tale that will touch hearts and teach compassion and friendship. I recommend this book for eighth graders and older.
Rating: Summary: Read This! Review: Many children did not understand how much we are of a "nuclear age" I am thirteen years old and this is a fine book. I had studied about how nuclear radiation is deadly and kills many, but this book really put it in perspective. "Shep's" love for Ezra is shown deep inside her, just like the leukemia Ezra faces. This is a must read because it covers many ineresting topics which children our age should know about, true love, radiation, and cancer... PS I have read this book three times!!!
