Rating: Summary: Obernewtyn is an inspiration Review: Read this book. Isobelle Carmody has created wonderful characters and settings and I can guarantee that after this book, you will go on to read the others in the series. It is full of honest, moral, nice people and animals, and makes you believe that there could be more to life than what there seems to be. It has changed my life considerably!
Rating: Summary: Good but Review: The book does a good job of creating and maintaining a world view and the characters are interesting. The review is so low because it seems to be an extended introduction to a series rather than a book that could stand alone. I think the series as a whole will be good but "Obernewtyn" seemed more a story putting out a number of loose threads that never get tied in and a number of characters some of whom will obviously figure in later books but many of whom are introduced and then killed off simply to anchor one end of a thread. From the other reviews it is obvious that this is the first of a series but I wish she had simply made the book a little thicker to begin with. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Fantasy Review: This book describes a settltement of "misfits' living afer the holocast. They are ruled by the beautiful but terrifying Madam Vega and her terrible assistant ariel. The main character Elspeth must come to terms with her feared powers and discover how important she is to the wellfair of Obernewtyn.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book Review: i really loved this book, along with the rest of the series. Elspeth Gordie (The Seeker) is a wonderful character and you are never sure exactly how remarkable her special powers and abilities are in relation to all the other Misfits in the story. Isobelle Carmody leaves little bits of information all over the place for you to pick up as you read the story (in the whole series). once you are finished you want to move straight on to the next book. Elspeth is mysterious and many other characters are in awe of her and keep her at a respectful distance once they learn of her powers. you can't wait for her to beat the bad guys and come out the hero for everyone to see.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: Obernewtyn was excellent. I think the next book, The Sender, is going to be the last book and I will be sad to leave Elspeth forever. I think this is book is worthy of many other stars than 5.
Rating: Summary: OBERNEWTON! TOTALLY COOL! Review: When I first picked up this book, I wasn't sure, for I'm more of a fantasy reader (David Eddings is the best! ) but when I started this book, it definately roused my interest. Isobelle has a nack of holding the reader inthralled! As a writer myself, I feel that her style of writing with hold the attention of young and old! Brilliant! Icant wait to read the rest of the series!
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: I generally read about four books a week, so I've been over a lot. Except for the incomparable Tamora Pierce, I have *never* found an author as good as Isobelle Carmody. The characters in "Obernewtyn" are interesting, the writing style is pleasing, and for once, the post-nuclear holocaust Earth isn't ineffably dark and depressing. I was so enthralled as to finish it in less than five hours- and that's only happened with thirteen other books.
Rating: Summary: NOBODY is better than Isobelle! Review: I started this book because my mother wanted me to.I finished it because I could not put it down! Isobelle is a great attention holder. She can make me read books for hours because I want to know what happens next so bad!I can not wait for the next book, I'll get it as soon as I can! she is as good as J.K. Rowling!
Rating: Summary: I loved the series Review: I was to read the book for school and I'm glad that I did read it, Isobelle Carmody is a great author and she has a fantastic imagination. I loved all her other books as well. I just hope that she could write faster cause I'm not a very patient person!!!
Rating: Summary: Obernewtyn is a Great book for all ages Review: I am 13 years old. I love reading books, and out of the hundreds of books that I have read, the Obernewtyn chronicles would be the best by far. Carmody has used her words in such a way, that kept me interested in every page of all the four books. It has a great story-line and brings a new twist to the story with every page.
