Rating: Summary: Great book for teens and women of all ages Review: Girls to Women, Women to Girls is an excellent collection of thoughts, stories, and poems from girls and women around the globe. I love it, and have read it like, ten times. It talks about things like what it is to be a female, peer pressure and cliques, teen crisis, and sex and virginity. I found it very inspirational and encouraging. It doesn't even really confine to teens and pre-teens either. It is, in my opinion, a great book for all ages. it's a book that grows with you. I VERY stronly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A "forever to be kept" book Review: Girls to Women, Women to Girls is one of the rare books that readers can keep "for a lifetime." It is evolutionary for the readers as it can be read at any stage of life, with different levels of understanding and meaning as life continues. The poignancy of the issues addressed and written about, the clarity of the wisdom and the "forever together" intent comes through loud and clear. The importance of "keeping your voice" comes through clearly and it is so important for young women to learn that what they think, what they feel and what they believe is so important for who they are today and who they can and will become tomorrow. Women of all ages, I believe will read this, relate to it, laugh with it and certainly know that they are not alone. Men should read this book to learn more about what issues girls and women deal with and for a father to read this, with or to his daughter, would be a wonderful way to say, "I love you."
Rating: Summary: This book is great! It answers all of a teens questions! Review: I absolutly love this book! It answered all of my questions about becoming a woman and about how to be safe under pressure. It has different sections about different thing that girls want to know. It even has a section on how men feel about the things that their daughters are going through. I recomend this book to anybody who has questions about being older.
Rating: Summary: An AWESOME book for any girl or woman!!!!!! Review: I am twelve years old, and have probably read hundreds of books in my lifetime, but this is one of the best books that I have ever read. It is full of GREAT stories written by girls and women ages 9-98. (There's even a great chapter with some amazing stories written by fathers!) My favorite chapter in the book is the one about peers and friends. When the authors were collecting writings, I submitted a story that eventually made it into the book. All of my friends (and their mothers) own at least one copy of it, and they have all said wonderful things about Girls to Women, Women to Girls. No matter what their age, girls and women all over the world are sure to enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Stars to steer by Review: I had the privilege to attend a reading from this book, given by many of its contributors. The stories are powerful and familiar, in that they bring to mind my stories of coming of age. If you know an adolescent girl, I would recommend that you buy a copy for her. And buy one for yourself, too. For those of us who worry about how our daughters will navigate the shoals of adolescence, this book offers stars to steer by.
Rating: Summary: The time is right for young women to read this book. Review: In a time when it is so awkward, if not impossible, to share thoughts with girls who are facing the transition to being a woman, it is wonderful that this book is available. The authors have filled this book with insights, mostly from women with a broad spectrum of viewpoints, but it also contains messages from men to the young women in their lives. I believe that this is a book which will be treasured by my entire family for many years to come.
Rating: Summary: an authentic celebration of women Review: In appearance this is a very colorfull book which did not prepare me for its very serious content. It is wonderfully rich in the experience and wisdom of many women gained through living productively, if not always happily, while searching for meaning in their lives. More, they tell their stories with very little, if any, rancor towards men. A major strength. In this it is almost a pure celebration of womanhood, a concept still struggling for widespread acceptance in American society. While there has been some editing, the stories these women tell are essentially in their own words which only adds to the volumne's credibility. It also suggests the notion that people have a need to tell their stories, to be heard, and to be acknowledged. In an age when so much of our lives are dictated by forces beyond our control, this, in and of itself is no small accomplishment. In short, this is a book I would recommend for my mother, sister, daughter and grand-daughter. I'm waiting for someone to produce the male version.
Rating: Summary: A book bursting with dignity and love. Review: Reading this book as a grown woman is like sitting in the living room at last, having all those desprately needed conversations you never got to have as a girl. The stories and vinettes within this collection go straight to the heart of what it means to be female. There is no blushing within this collection, but rather stories written by both women and girls are shared boldly and courageously. The entire book is a gracious reminder of the transforming, even redemtive power of adolescence. What a joyful thing it will be for girls and women everywhere to celebrate together the power of passion, beauty and desire as they puruse the pages of a book about themselves...bursting with dignity and love...Girls to Women, Women to Girls!
Rating: Summary: For women of all ages! Review: This book is on my shopping list for the holidays for all the important women in my life, regardless of age. Whether you are pre-adololescent or pre-menopausal this book speaks straight to the heart of womanhood. It's playful and joyful, honest and poignant, and most importantly sends a message of hope to women, young and old celebrating the power of connecting with our feminine spirit. Go buy it! (And keep a copy for yourself...)
Rating: Summary: A Celebration of Girls and Women! Review: This is a wonderful collection of writings, filling a void in the publishing arena of celebration of young womens lives, growth and womanhood. A joy to read! It's also a fabulous gift to every young woman, as well as fathers of young women. A+++
