Summary: A Hat Trick for Competition, Humor, and Insight
Review: "Power Play" entertained from the beginning to the end. The story of two best friends, their relationship, and the dichotomy of the relationship each boy has with his respective father, is told in the course of a competitive youth hockey season in Minnesota. The colloquial feel of the language and the importance of hockey to that region of the country was educational yet very relatable.

Mr. Walters skillfully draws the reader into a seemingly light story, then gradually, but surely weaves in emotional depth to secure one's attention. The humor is subtly reflected in the dialogue and action.

The emotional crisis the main character faces is coupled with a physical crisis that finally leads to an epiphany for his father. As a result, one can only hope that the main character is filled with the joie de vie that he deserves.

Do yourself a favor and read this book, particularly if you have child you think is going to be the next Tiger, Jordan, Gretzky, etc.

Review: Trevor and Al are best friends and work through hockey, school, and girl issues as Al struggles with an over zealous father.

As a father of two boys I bonded with the two young characters and realized some of my own sons' struggles growing up.The development of the characters is immediate and gets you involved as the hockey team wins game after game leading up to the season finale.

The emotional stress on young Al makes you stop and think how pressure on grade school children can turn their positive, endless energy into withdrawal and apathy very quickly...

Al and his father have many tough moments but finally come together; leaving the reader in a positive and thoughtful ending.

This is a good first book by T.E. Walters.
