Summary: Same as Diamond Mako
Review: A great non-Palm PDA, but under-marketed in the US as the Diamond Mako.

I've bought 4 of them on auction sites like eBay -- everyone in my family wanted one. Prices there are competitive. Many people got these as a throw-in with Compaq desktops a year ago, and never used them.

Thumb-typing on the keyboard is easy. Uses easy stylus/touchscreen commands, plus has well-thought-out keyboard commands. Comes with great built-in programs, but add-on software is hard to find.

Synch cradle attaches by a serial port, not USB. I synch and recharge every day or two, so I don't lose much if I drop it in a pond. When that happened, I headed back to the auction site for a replacement.

Summary: One Step Beyon than Palm
Review: After trying all kind of devices, REVO is definitivechoice. Extremely well designed, I found it very useful all of it'sappplications. It is more than the "basic" PALM (in all of their aspects) devices and faster than Windows CE Based PDA's. Spreadsheet, Word, etc.. The information is well presented and easy to read and the keyboard, when you get used to it, it's very nice.. It is my 3 week with and I love it! Only two bad things: Lack of backlight (in some ways, compensated with the high contrast screen) and Problems with the Charger (I'm not the only for what I know).. PSION, when are you going to supply a multivoltage (110?220v) charger with the REVO? Also, I would like to get a nice carrying case from Psion. No problems at all when using it with sapnish terms (accents, "eñes", etc..) END

Summary: excellent!
Review: Also worth considering the 5 mx, doesn't look half as good but the keybopard is bigger.

Amazing technology. The alarm could be louder though, only just pierces ear plugs. It's nice to have my other half leave wake up messages when I'm away from home.

Summary: I've ditched my old Palm V...
Review: As a mobile user, I'm really looking forward to Bluetooth, but the Revo's infra-red port links really well with my Nokia. Sending text messages is a dream with its keyboard, and I've notched up a fair rate. Its keys are small and so probably not suited to people with large fingers, who I recommend should go for Palm V plus keyboard, or the larger Series 5mx.

Beaming Contacts and business cards between it and the Palm works great too, and I much prefer its diary application (called Agenda).

I do miss the Palm's backlight, but Revo's screen is several orders of magnitude easier to read in low-light conditions. (Psion, when are you going to release a backlit version? )

Agenda is probably the best-thought out application, and caters for nearly everything I use Outlook for at work. Synching is a matter of double clicking on an icon on my PC's desktop, the only info that the Psion doesn't let you see is attendees.

As for software, I'm so far planning on buying some of the Berlitz language guides, and have also become addicted to an excellent freeware Asteroids clone...

Anyone who's a Palm user, and isn't sure, I can say that I whole-heartedly recommend this machine if you're fed-up with Graffiti, and want a bit more power in your palmtop!

Summary: 2 packaging problems, one Bug, solutions. Otherwise -BEST!
Review: As my old PSION 3a was aging, I started looking into replacing it, not to be caught by surprise without: in five years I got so used to it that i can't imagine myself without.

So, I spent more than half a year since April researching all of the competition -- both Palm and Pocket PC. I found PocketPC applications unexcusably anemic, and by far no comparison to what i got used to with my 5 years old PSION. Palms are fine, but still don't quite measure up.

Again like then in 1995, only PSION, namely this PSION Revo satisfies my needs completely.

There are 2 problems and 1 bug that nearly prompted me to return it back to Amazon, but I SOLVED THEM and I am keeping the unit:

1. The spellchecker/thesaurus/crossword solver/anagram builder -- was supposed to be on that PsiWIN2 disk, but really it's not there, don't waste your time looking. Unfortunately, I must admit, PSION does not shine with good customer service, so you just have to search the Web for the file named spell.sys. Just go to Yahoo.com, type +"spell.sis", hit enter and you'll get to some site where they will have this file available for download. The latest I found is 9/24/1999 775KB.

2. The Paint application -- same story. Search the Web the same way for +"paint.sis".

The latest I found is 5/19/2000 254K.

Yes, it's ".sis", not "sys" --- Eye, not why.

Some companies may offer you "sketch.sis" with so called "Sketch" application -- don't fall for this! It's really only outdated version of the same Paint. All companies that do this trick ask you either for money or your personal data -- whatever they use it for. You don't need to part with either -- just get that "paint.sis" for free.

Bug: if you overzoom in the Day View in Agenda -- your screen may go crazy, but just zoom out one level and you are fine.

Don't overcharge the battery. PSION is a lightning quick charger -- it brings you back nearly to your 100% of power in about an hour and a half. Disconnect the power cord when the red light near the Tab key goes out.

Now why it's worth all the small trouble:

I found the application suite supplied to be by far better than any competition known to me:

-- The word processor with customizable style sheets, full WYSIWYG font support, outline look (so you can handle really long documents) and object embedding, spell checker, thesaurus.

-- Spreadsheet with CHARTING (!!) and all functions I personally need.

--- Two calculators, both are nothing else to wish for.

-- World time with 2 cities side by side, sunrise/sunset information for all, rich city/country database with phone dial codes.

-- Database -- very flexible and quite powerful.

-- Agenda -- a piece of art of time management with only 1 thing missing but attainable: month view. I personally don't need it -- I can easily schuss thru my 4 weeks of a month back and forth keeping everything I need in my short term memory. Otherwise -- nothing else to wish for: you can define event repetition patterns as complex as you may ever need, resolve conflicts. It's utmostly clever designed, extremely friendly and comfy, and powerful, powerful, powerful.

-- File/System management -- better than you may expect for this size. Better than PocketPCs I tried including the latest Casio E-125 (see my review there).

You can download kazillions of applications of any imaginable kind at Tucows, RevoWorld, epocware etc (I personally prefer Tucows - they have fair rating system and they are neatly organized). You can get CAD, Routing, Money, GPS, Languages, Astronomy, Astrology, Religion, Cooking, DIning, Diving, Flying, Sailing, Music playing etc etc ... applications -- just go surf into them Tucows and see yourself. Also, you can go compare what's available for PocketPC (mostly games. That's the whole idea -- judge yourself what's for fun what's for fight...)

E-books variety for PSION make MS Reader blush -- and all free! Charles Dickens, Alexander Dumas, Mark Twain and more and more and more -- free at Tucows.

PSION does have sound capability (REVO can't record sound), but no color and no multimedia, Revo has 4 levels of gray screen. Which is enough for me personally to carry around in my pocket.

The keyboard -- I find myself typing 3 to 5 times faster than my friends who use Palms can ink the same data in. You can get half a dozen handwriting recognition apllications, some freeware.

There are localization packages in many languages including Hebrew, Japanese, Russian.

Summary: Excellent PDA
Review: Great little machine. Fast onto the internet and sync with e-mail. No back light. :( I have purchased one for each member of my family. They are really happy to use. Great for travel, compact and lightweight. Love it to the max!!!

Summary: Reliability nightmare
Review: Great product with lousy reliability. I've had the motherboard and the battery-pack replaced in the last 6 months. I understand that the reliability problems led to Psion dropping the product line. Do thus not buy!
