Summary: I HAD a Palm M125 BUT....
Review: I bought a T415 after three palm M125s that self destructed within the first 30 days of owning them. They failed without being dropped or having any damage at all. They stopped recognizing graffitti, crashed, locked up, or just wouldn't stay on.
I gave up and bought the Sony Clie T415. What a difference! It seems faster, and I can't say I agree with any of the complaints (except maybe the cover popping out the memory stick) I hear.
Unfortunately, Sony seems to be discontinuing the T415, and now that I DID drop the thing, I can't get a replacement from the point of purchase!
I would buy another one in a heartbeat, though, if i could.

Summary: Pretty good b&w PDA
Review: I bought the T415 to replace a 2 year old Visor. I'm very happy with my purchase. The performance speed is very good compared to older PDAs, and the sleek aluminum case and thin form factor is exactly the style I was looking for.

The screen is dimmer than many other brands & models on the market, but I'm very happy with it. If you're used to a bright screen, you may not like this one. The backlight is like an indiglow light, and doesn't reverse the screen like some other backlights.

The hotsync cradle is also the charger, and out of the box, you need both a usb cable and a power cable plugged into the cradle. The T415 also comes with a flip cover to protect the screen. It's ok, but I'm looking forward to real cases to become available for this model, as I'd like something more substantial. The installation cd also includes Documents to Go (not a demo) and some shareware programs to try out.

The buttons are a little small, so if you like playing games that need the buttons, you may not like these. This wasn't a consideration for me, and for regular use, the buttons are fine.

If you're not looking for a color screen, this may be worth a look. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the dim screen which won't be suitable for everyone. If you're not sure if it will work for you, check a store demo first.

Summary: Sony T415
Review: I bought this as my first PDA. Its very thin and handles nice in your hand. I dont like the backlight, if I had it to do again I would buy a color one with better color and light

Summary: So far so good...but
Review: I bought this refurbished and have been pretty happy with it. It is my first PDA. But I have had a couple of problems - the flimsy cover which keeps coming off...and then this mysterious backlight which everyone keeps talking about. Where is this backlight? I have not been able to find it in any manual. The only thing I know is you can adjust the contrast but that's it. Thanks!

Summary: Very different than other handhelds...
Review: I find that I'm the kind of person who wants to purchase the "top-of-the-line" in gadgets. However, I am also the kind of person who can't ever afford it. So I have to be an efficient shopper to get satisfaction. I must have read 50 or more reviews for this product (and a select few others)before I decided to purchase it. I knew that since I was ordering it I would not like the idea of having to send it back. The majority of the reviews I read on the T415 all complain of a screen that is anything from irritatingly dim to impossible to use. In fact numerous people claimed to have returned the T415 in favor of another handheld. I was disappointed to hear this since I really enjoy higher resolution whenever I can get it and I LOVED the idea of being able to customize the alarm sound however I wanted.
I finally got the chance to...check it out on display. Now I understand the problems that people were having.......they need to take more vitamins and get their eyes checked. I ordered one right away. The screen is head and shoulder above all the other handheld I have seen. I LOVE the that I can get more information on the screen at once. That means smaller fonts and icons people! If you can thread a needle, you'll handle this gadget well. I you cant even see a needle when you hold it in you hand, look elsewhere for you plam device. The sound function is as cool as I expected. Don't expect to throw out all your stereo equipment or anything but it's cool none the less.
The screen doesnt have the same near iridescent background as a few other palms and some digital watches but it is not noticably dimmer than any other LCD screened device. (cell phones, calculators, ect...) I own a wizard organizer and the screen is slightly clearer and many time sharper that that. PLUS the bluish hint to the the gray scale along with the black on the screen actually makes this more of a "duochromatic" rather that monochromatic pda. Two colors rather than just one.

If any of the features above are intriguing to you, I recommend you choose the T415. Provided you don't want to spend the extra cash for the color version of essentially the same device. The color version does have I clearer screen as is expected...it's COLOR for pity's sake. You get what you pay for.

I must agree that I have not yet found the solution for the button problem. I dont mind the shape. I dont mind the tiny scroll "lever" (it's not even really a button). I just can't seem to stop the thing from turning on no matter where it is. Pocket, briefcase, soft pda case, wherever. I'm currently looking into some sort of hard case but there are few options for such a unique sized and shaped device.

Summary: Vastly disappointed
Review: I have a Palm 500 which I am very pleased with, so my wife wanted a PDA as well - she was persuaded by a silver-tongued salesman to buy the Clie instead - what a mistake!
o- The screen is almost unreadable, even at optimum contrast and increasing the font size.
o- The flip-top cover flips off more than on.
o- The beam facility is incompatible with Palm.
o- The jog roller is poorly positioned, making it uncomfortable to use.
o- The up-down button is almost unusable.
o- To switch on, put it in your pocket.

So bad, she dumped it and bought a Palm instead.

Summary: Not so bad for the first day!
Review: I just bought this item. As it sits in the cradle I'm thinking that it is pretty good. The display isn't that bad as many people say it is. I've had the Palm 100 and the 105, and I think that this compares on the display, I haven't used all the functionality that this handheld offers, but for now I'm keeping it, until I get mad at it! For now it is good!

Summary: Returned item
Review: I love Sony products, but the Sony Clie is not my first love.

First and foremost, the Clie is not compatible with NT; not cool. Clie's fragile body leaves me sort of paranoid especially without a decent carrying case. I would sure like to see the chrome after it gets tossed around in my briefcase. For the Clie's [pricey] taste it does not compare to many others out there that come with other functions. Oops the others don't have the memory stick capability, video clips, video player and many other outrageous things.

I almost forgot, the Clie remote control would not do me any good if I am on a plane.

Not too simple.

Summary: Works great, less filling.
Review: I moved to the PEG-T415 from Palm 7...this was the best unit I could find after hours of research. Sony's 24/7 support was excellent: once for helping me transfer all my existing data, once for correcting a USB problem. The screen is dim, but the long-living rechargable battery lets you use backlighting any time you wish. I like the resolution enhancement. Tiny form factor and aluminum chassis are doubleplusgood.

Summary: Does almost as much as my laptop!
Review: I poured over reviews for almost 2 months trying to decide which PDA to buy... I went with a palm os because of the medical applications as well as the many free programs available for it.... I have already started using it everyday and everywhere.... I love the Avantgo- which lets me keep up on news and local weather, etc.... also the word to go... works great when I can't carry my laptop and with graffti writing I can input data faily quickly.... would have enjoyed color...but wasn't worth the extra 200$, especially when I will probably get a new one in 2 years the way technology changes.... the 415 comes prepackaged with lots of extras (same as the more expensive clies) compared with the palm or the handspring.... I have had it for a few weeks and love it! I also purchased a 64mb smartmedia card and that really helps hold all of my medical dictionaries and larger files.....
would definately reccommend it to a friend... and actually have since everyone in the ER sees me carrying it around!
