Summary: Garbage
Review: I got mine less than a month ago in the US (I live in Brazil)
a few days ago I was walking back home when it suddenly froze, no more sound just the screen at that exact moment, nothing much you can do about it since not even frenetic button pressing or pluging it on the computer solved, well now I have to take it 150 km from my place to an Apple shop and if reposition is necessary I'll have to wait about one more month. So I couldn't more pleased with my sweet iPod ,thanx apple

Summary: Mediocre Player/Strorage device
Review: $400 for this thing is outrageous. All it does is play and store music. It does that well enough but there are plenty of players that can do that for far less-the Rio, the iriver etc.

If you are going to spend $400 you should get more than a just a player/storage device and it shouldn't look like a fisher price toy!

The Samsung Napster 20GB player costs the same as a 20GB ipod but is far more than just a player/storage device.

The Napster Samsung player in addition to being player/storage device like the iPod it ALSO acts as a recorder for all media.

The line in/out feature allows you to digitize your entire audio library including CD, old cassettes and Lp' s. It also plays FM and can transform the player into a car stereo with the FM transmitter. In short, the Napster Samsung player can act as you entire stereo system by just adding speakers.

Also the Napter service is great. Many people don't understand the benefits to the Napster premium service. They call it renting music (as if renting was a dirty word-people rent houses, cars videos!).

First of all on Napster you can buy individual tunes and albums just as you can on iTunes so you don't have to rent.

The Napster premium service allows you to listen to almost all songs in the Napster catalogue-the ENTIRE songs not just 30 second clips. You can make playlists of these songs or even download them for playing them off line. The radio stations are also customizable allowing you to skip, delete or add songs (from you own collection or the Napter library) to the 30 + pre set radio stations. All this for just $9.95 a month and you have access to the vast majority of all great songs available on line.

With the Samsung Napster player and the Napster premium service you have all you music needs met!

Summary: Awesome - buy it
Review: (This is a review I wrote for the 40GB iPod. Most of it applies to this model as well.)

What I like best about Amazon reviews is that, unlike Consumer Reports or other technical reviewers, they come from people who own the product and use it every day. Hence a disclaimer - I got my iPod a week ago.

That being said - it is awesome. My iPod is connected to my PowerBook, where I have almost 5,000 songs stored in iTunes. All I have to do is put the iPod in the cradle and it automatically syncs. The first time took about 30 minutes or so - after that it hasn't taken more than a minute or so. It's much easier than other MP3 players. (For Christmas last year, I bought my dad a Rio MP3 player. Teaching him how to load songs onto it was a huge pain.)

The sound quality is as good as it gets for an MP3. I bring my iPod everywhere and am listening to songs I forgot I have. It's also forced me to go through my music library and make sure everything is labeled properly (if it's not, it's going to be hard to find on an iPod, as it doesn't have a search function).

The games it comes with are mindless timewasters, which is what they were intended to be. The music quiz is pretty cool though. The address book and calendar functions are useful, although a bit of a pain to update if you don't use Mac's Address Book and iCal, as you can't use iSync.

The only complaints I have are minor:

-When attached to the remote control, the earphone cord is too long. While it can be tucked in a pocket if you are wearing normal clothes, it's a pain when you go to the gym or for a run.
-There's a slight pause between songs, which is annoying when listening to a complete concert.
-Like many newer cars, mine doesn't have a tape deck. Hence, the only way to play my iPod through the car stereo is through an FM transmitter - most of which have lousy reputations.
-The functionality of the calendar and address book could be improved, although I'm sure that will come in time and iPods will be fully functioning PDAs as well.

Summary: Beware Windows XP Users
Review: After three days of sitting in front of my PC attempting to install my 20GB iPod, I finally got it to work. I uploaded about 40 songs, took it for a spin, and convinced myself that in spite of the stress of the installation, it might turn out to be a good Christmas gift after all. Then I tried to reboot my computer. iPod had crashed my hard drive, forcing me to reinstall Windows. All files not backed up have been lost.

My computer runs Windows XP, a system that, from a glance at the online forum ipodlounge.com, is not 100% compatible with the dubious iPod, despite claims of the iPod owner's manual to the contrary. In this chat room, you'll find dozens of Windows XP users who have suffered hard disk crashes, frozen workstations, etc, as well as optimistic cheerleader types (surely Apple employees or advocates) who offer such encouraging comments as "You're almost there!" "Just disable iPod Manager," or "Time to reinstall Windows!!!" This comes as a shock to the customer who trusted the simplicity of the instruction manual, to wit: "1) Install the enclosed CD-Rom; 2) Plug in iPod (music is uploaded automatically); 3) Listen to music!"

So I visited Apple's website (from my work computer, my home computer now paralyzed by Apple's sinister invention), where the infuriated customer is delighted to learn that he can CHOOSE THE COLOR OF THE IPOD ADVERTISEMENT HE WISHES TO VIEW in pink! green! violet! (Conjure up Apple's ad campaign with dreadlocked hipsters rocking out, as your own iPod sits impotent, flashing "Do Not Disconnect" for 8 hours straight). Apple's troubleshooting pages are of the order, "Can't turn on iPod? Be sure to charge iPod!" Helpful information for the mouth breathers among us, but if you're seeking to analyze the deeper (and as yet uncharted) problems between the diabolical iPod and its bumbling accomplice, Windows XP, you're out of luck.

My rule being, Anything that costs more than 100 dollars and crashes my hard drive gets returned right away, I have done so. Meantime I'll be waiting for someone to turn out a music server compatible with Windows XP.

Neat idea, Apple. Now go make it work.

Summary: So Small . . .
Review: And yet you forget about the size once you hear it.

Having started out with 78s, then 45s, 33 1/3, CDs, this is truly amazing in every aspect.

It is small, lightweight and flat enough to fit into the pocket of your jeans. But it manages to hold an entire music library with room to spare and reproduces excellent sound. The sound quality is unsurpassed.

Transferring files, from Apple's iTunes, is a painless, quick and easy way to do it. After the download you can sort them to folders you create. iTunes has quite a vast arrany of music ranging from Billboard hits going back to the 50's up to the latest hits on the airwaves. You will find almost everything you want there and even a few albums/ songs that you don't know about. The price is the standard 99 cents per song; $10 for an album.

But it is the iPod that makes it all amazing. In less space than you could store a CD jewel case (and think of all the fun you will have with NEVER having to open one of those cellophane wrappers again), you can have nearly 5000 songs or 500 complete albums! The sound quality is excellent and even though I am using it in enemy territory (I am a PC devotee), the Apple people don't begrudge you that choice and it loaded, set up and works with any PC imaginable.

The loss of one star comes from the impossible tuning system though. The wheel/ scroll device is OK but it makes it nearly impossible to quickly back and forth from one album/ song to the next. Something more in the line of a PALM touch screen would be better suited but as the sound quality is excellent, the ease of use is unbeatable and you will have this with you for quite some time, that is a minor glitch.

One recommendation: get one of the small, inexpensive devices that lets you play the iPod through your home or car FM stereo sound system. Don't be mislead by the claims that it drifts in and out. If you are playing it at home, just keep the iPod near the stereo and you will never have to worry.

All in all, it is truly the next step in music.

Summary: Poor player, no features, closed system, extremely expensive
Review: Apple does it again. They managed to create one of the first good mp3 players, just like they produced one of the first good pcs.

Then it all falls apart-they keep prices high, use a proprietary format that the rest of the world does not use and try to lock the users into buying their expensive products (ipods) and services (itunes).

For starters there are players by Dell, Gateway and of course Napster that do more than just play music like the ipod and all are far less expensive and all handle mp3 and wma files which the ipod does not which leaves the ipod user no alternative but to use itunes (which isn't bad but charges .99 a tune and does not allow listening to entire tunes before buying-something that Napster does)

This ipod does not sound very good either. I tried a friend's and he envies my Samsung Napster player because of the recording capabiities. I can make mp3 files from radio streams, old cassetes and even my own voice. The fm on the napster is not really of use to me but its there if you want it.

The ipod's day has past-it was great when it was the only game in town but with the slew of new 20gb players on the market that play wma and mp3 files at $100-150 cheaper, you 'd be nuts to shell out 400 for an ipod that does little more than play music.

Review: Apple has done it again! Every product they have is wonderfully designed and crafted. I just got my new iPod and it is amazing. The sound quality is fabulous and the iPod seems to be able to play music at a much higher volume level which is excellent. Here are some of the major pros and cons:

1. Large music capacity
2. Great sound quality
3. Sleek, stylish look
4. On-The-Go playlists
5. Battery Life
6. Easy click wheel
7. Light weight and small design

Cons:

1. A bit pricey - but its worth it
2. Battery is not user-replaceable
3. It can be diffucult transferring calendar files to iPod

Well, I hope that I helped out in your search for an iPod. In the end I say that u should BUY THE iPOD! It is a wonderful gift idea for your child or just even for yourself. It is also a great ideda for a stocking-stuffer. Good luck!

Summary: You can't go wrong
Review: Apple's iPod is the best thing since sliced bread. No longer will you have to carry 30 CDs with you in the car or on vacation. All your CDs (and plenty more) will fit comfortably on an iPod. Not only does it hold thousands of songs, but it also stores your contacts, calendars (Mac only), and notes for easy viewing. It also has a few games--such as solitare--to keep you entertained on the road. This truly one-of-a-kind companion will go with you every time you leave the house, and every time you don't leave it.
With Belkin's new accesories, you can import photos from your digital camara via memory cards. No more running out of picture space, or lugging that laptop around on photo-worthy trips. The new microphone accessory blends in nicely on the top of your iPod, and allows you to record personal notes, and doubles as a mini-speaker.
iTunes is now available for Windows, making purchasing music for your 'Pod and syncing easier than ever. If you feel the need to suffer buyer's remorse, this is not the product for you. It will change the way you listen to music, and that is a fact. So what are you waiting for? Buy an iPod and your ears will thank you later.

Summary: iPod Review
Review: At first when I received my iPod, I was very excited, and had quite high expectations to the product, but these expectations didn't seem to last for long. IPod is said to have approximately 8 hours of continuous play. I though those 8 hours could just cover it - so I bought it.

Here the thing: my iPod was able to play 3-4 hours of music, depending on how often I changed songs, used the backlight etc.

Pros:
- Great Design: nice touch wheel and easy to operate
- Good Playback: awesome sound and good earphones
- Nice Features: browse songs, playlists etc.

Cons:
- Battery Life: the battery life totally ruins this product!
- Scratches Easily: especially the metal back of the iPod scratches very easily.
- Technical Errors: during my short relationship with the iPod, I experienced several errors, mostly when charging from the docking station.

The bottom line: don't buy this product!

Summary: Do NOT waste your money on this piece of Crapple
Review: Awful, AWFUL, overheated, battery can't hold a charge more than an hour, won't install properly on my brand newish Dell laptop; doesn't like my USB drivers in XP; can't use it on my 98 machine without buying a Firewire card which may or may not work, since hey, I may need non-98 compatible drivers....Apple website USELESS.

Don't get this. Get the iRiver instead. Stop giving money to a company with closed standards, faulty products, and a terrible additude! You're not doing friends, family, or yourself a favor if you get them something that's defective, and takes 24 hours and over $100 of additional software and cables to set up (hey Apple--if you sell it as "Windows compatible" how about giving away the freaking CABLE in a $400 item?)!
