Rating: Summary: Italy Guide: 5th Edition (Open Road Travel Guides) Review: A friend sent us the second edition, before travelling to Rome and Florence in 1999. My husband and I thought the book was far superior to the other travel books we used.It had a real personal touch, plus the suggestions were wonderful. The book was amazing. Every restaurant that Doug recommended was terrific. We are returning to Italy next year, and I just purchased the 5th Edition . Plus, I have emailed the author and he has responded to my questions in a timely manner.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip to Italy.
Rating: Summary: An Expert Guide to Italy Review: "The Italy Guide is a gem of a book for first time visitors as well as experienced travelers. Mr. Morris' book contain all the information you'll need to have a great vacation in Italy. Ignore the glut of travel books filling store shelves, The Italy Guide is the only one you'll need."
- Paul Rosetti, Editor, The Italian Tribune, www.ItalianTribune.com
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: As a travel writer and an anthologist (Italy in Mind and the forthcoming Tuscany in Mind), I heartily endorse this guide. Raised as an American in Italy, Doug Morris has the perspective of both a native and a tourist, an unbeatable combination. During an extensive trip to Italy last spring I took Morris's advice and found it spot on. (Yes, Lucca is the gem that he describes.) Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Italy Guide: 5th Edition (Open Road Travel Guides) Review: As an experienced traveler who has lived all over the world, I am always grateful when I find a travel guide that helps me integrate myself into another country easily. Morris' volume helped me find the best sights, stay in the best hotels, and eat at the restaurants and cafes that the local frequent. Use this book and you will have a great time in Italy.
Rating: Summary: This Book saved me from myself Review: I had a whole ill advised travel plan mapped out for myself. Then a friend bought me this book before I left for two weeks. Having this no nonsense guide really helped me avoid feeling like a lost tourist in knee high socks, shorts, and a camera around my neck. Favorite tips were the restaurants and romantic, affordable pensiones. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Very Helpful indeed!! Review: I have used this guide every time I return to Italy.
It was written by my brother and I felt sure that I knew Italy as well as he did--well, I was wrong: His guide is thoroughly researched and he has discovered many new and interesting things to see and do while not missing any of the normal sights for a first time visitor. The author returns to Italy a couple of times a year for updates to the guide and to follow up leads given him by readers. I envy him, but I know that he will have turned up something new for me to visit or experience on my next trip to Italy. I do, however, wish that he would give what is, to me, the best restaurant in the world a mention: La Cantinetta di Rignana.(They have a web-site.) Getting to the restaurant is half the fun: the trek begins just off the highway between Florence and Sienna and continues through a lovely medieval town and down a dirt road. Once there, the view and food will blow you away. Well worth the trip.
And this book is well worth the price.
Rating: Summary: Used the Guide and it made my Trip! Review: My family and I recently visited Italy. We used this guide to find wonderful out of the way restaurants and places to visit. This is obviously a guide written by someone "in the know."
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING TRAVEL GUIDE Review: On a scale of one to five the Italy Guide should be a six because the author's writing sparkles with humor and wit which makes it not only a fun book to read but it's also a book chock full of useful information for anyone traveling to Italy. We valued the Italy Guide while visiting there but we've also given it to friends who could not travel. They enjoyed reading the descriptive paragraphs and felt like they were on a tour. The book contains an adequate amount of historical material which helps the reader understand why certain areas of the country differ dramatically from others. Throughout the book there are excellent descriptions of hotels, restaurants, art treasures, good shopping locations, and virtually everything one needs to get the most from a visit to Italy. If you're pressed for time, the book contains sample itineraries which highlight the most important places to see. Mr. Morris's paragraphs are alive with energy when he describes places and things he thinks you'll enjoy because he lived in Italy for many years and he knows what is interesting and worthwhile. Consequently he uses his first-class flair with words to aim you in the right direction. It is a pleasure for us to recognize the hard work and sound judgment that went into this book and we thank Doug Morris for writing it. We highly recommend it to all.
Rating: Summary: Ciao Bella! Review: This book is packed with info. I lived in Italy for four years and was looking for a good reference for a trip I plan to take as soon as I have both the time and the money...yadda yadda. Anyway, parusing this book brings back the memories and offers little "insider" vignettes not only about the different places you can explore, but also about the culture, food, tipping and even explains how to get your car towed... (Hey, you never know...) It's obvious that this writer has spent some time in Italy and has written a comprehensive book. This is not your generic guide book that covers just the basics. This one goes in depth. Note that the author does not have books on any other country... he seems to be a specialist.
Rating: Summary: Italy Guide :5th Edition(Open Road Travel Guides) Review: We have been thinking about traveling to Europe. We read the Tuscany & Umbria Guide on Italy and our choice of country was decided.
Since Mr. Morris has lived in Italy, he has the knowledge of the country.
Thanks Mr. Morris for a fantastic book.
