Summary: Let's Go Mexico Delivered the Party!
Review: I just got back from Mexico, where Let's Go lead me to Zipolite, a hippie paradise on the Pacific coast, south of Oaxaca. Nude beaches, nightlife, cheap cabanas this book has it all. There's a lot of political info too, but it's still perfect for spring break.

Summary: A very nice guide
Review: Let's Go Mexico was everything that I needed--cheap hotels (sometimes too cheap), great eats, and an excellent guide away from 1st class travel, which is what I was looking for, particularly in the section on Oaxaca and Chiapas. If you are on less of a budget than other students, I highly recommend that you take many of the hotel/hostel districts listed and look around for nicer accommodations--for just a few pesos more--it's worth it, particularly in the larger cities like Mexico City, Tasco, Veracruz, and Oaxaca. The peso fluctuations were very erratic during our 8 week travels, but I found the dollar is always strong in Mexico, and no guidebook can predict what happens in such economic times. A pleasure to read.

Summary: Outdated info.
Review: While I have been a big fan of the Let's Go series in the past for trips to Europe and previous trips to Mexico, I was disappointed with the 1999 edition of "Let's Go Mexico." Some of the information was just PLAIN OUTDATED and WRONG. I question whether anyone physically visited some of the Yucatan sites lately. Prices for things like public busses and admission to Chichen Itza are almost 50% higher than the Let's Go published fares. Some areas are now closed to the public for excavation purposes. I was also very disappointed with many of their restaurant picks in places like Cancun and Isla Mujeres. Personally, I think Frommer's "Mexico on $35 a day" or their Yucatan edition is a better buy for your dollars/pesos.
