Rating: Summary: Very good resource for families Review: I agree with the previous reviews. This is an excellent resource, and a great model for how to introduce European cultures (or any other cultures) to your children. Brings the wonder and excitement that we feel as parents to the children, and makes the travel much more satisfying for everyone. Other great ideas are included in the "Storybook Travels" book, although not exclusive to Europe, but does give a good perspective on how to adapt travel to the needs of your kids.

Rating: Summary: Get Kids Invested in the Trip Before, During and After Review: I love the whole premise of this book! It provides some wonderfully basic information about language, history, food, culture and Italian life. It offers some specific advice about places to see and things to do. The author shares ideas for games, lists, drawings, descriptions, even on-the-go research for a school project! Simply put, these things are designed to engage the kids' minds (and eyes and ears and mouths) so they're not asking when it's time to go home. It does not patronize children and is suitable for a wide age range - I'd say from 3rd grade through early high school. (My kids are 4th through 9th grade.) All this for the price of lunch! Well Done!

Rating: Summary: Imaginative Ideas for Appreciating Italian Life Review: Italy Discovery Journal is the best educational travel-guide available for kids. Starting with the reasonable assumption that other guides already list places to go and things to see, Pat Byrne has largely skipped those listings. In their place, she's created a unique collection of activities that encourage kids 6-16 to truly observe and interact with Italy during their visit. She challenges kids to describe Italian school uniforms, list weird snackfoods, collect pasta shapes, and even look for people wearing charms against Malocchio, the evil eye--just to name a few of the scores of activities included. Byrne's approach emphasizes that travel should be dedicated to meeting people and learning about a different culture rather than simply eyeballing churches and museums--and she gives families an excellent set of tools to propel them in her recommended direction. As a veteran author of the Europe-wide family travel guide "Take Your Kids to Europe," I highly recommend "Italy Discovery Journal" and anxiously await expansion of the series to other countries.

Rating: Summary: Great! This is Fantastic! Review: My nieces will be traveling to Italy so I bought this ebook for them. They're interested in different things -- one is very sports minded, and the other is interested in the latest fashions and trends. They like the idea of making their own travel guide. They're scheming together on things to include. I've noticed they're very excited in this trip and engaged in planning their personalized trip planners. I believe it's because the author was so creative in ways to explore a new country. This make-it-yourself book is a great idea. My nieces love it. Their parents like it too. I think the vacation will turn out fun for everyone!

Rating: Summary: Inter-cultural education while having fun Review: This book is written by an insider who obviously has never lost to see the world through the eyes of a curious child. As I learned about various aspects of the Italian people's life, I also learned to appreciate my own customs in a way I had never done before. Although I am not between 6 and 16 (I celebrated my 16th birthday a long, long time ago), I greatly enjoyed the book.
