Rating: Summary: The past is reborn! Review: Being a Rajput whose father is from the Jaipur dynasty, I was very impressed with this book. Like the latest book (please refer to "Maharaj's Jewels"), I found this book very ornate with beautiful pictures and rich historical details. The book is full of facts and intersting tidbits a reader will find facinating. Like all table top books, this one will add integrity to one's collection...

Rating: Summary: Best Images on Jaipur Review: Jaipur: The Last Destination which was among the six books chosen by Christie's first catalog of art books under its Islamic/Oriental/Indian Section and recommended for its "stunning images." Published by St. Martin's Press in North America and I.B.Taurus in Europe, the book also received a national award from the Indian government, and has become a landmark in Indian art book publishing by having four reprints.

Rating: Summary: Photographer's comments Review: Since this project was largely a historical account, photography posed its own challenges - how do you capture the art and architrectural heritage of a city in a manner that would evoke its centuries old past? Avoiding the congestion, the overhanging wires, banners, the planned or accidental ugliness that is engulfing this "Pink' city was only part of the problem. Producing images in a variety of formats and sometimes on the run, some to be reproduced on four feet long gate folds - an unheard of proportions in Indian publishing scene then. Such efforts certainly paid off - critically well received, even picking up a prestigious national award from the Indian government. The book's already in its third edition in India - a rare case in India where market for coffee table books is extremely limited and few art books manage enough sales for even a first reprint. A great learning experience for me, I only hope that with the recent international editions more people are drawn to this wonderful city.
