Rating: Summary: A Must for all New Comers to the US Review: Even though the first edition of Hello USA was attractively presented, and very thorough, the presentation of the second edition is even crisper and the content is even more inviting to the readers. Some welcome additions are website addresses, chapter heading on each page, and references for the Author's Favorites. Suggesting for example the length that food should be kept in the refrigerator is a welcome addition for someone not used to the American kitchen and to the products available in the stores. The technology has changed since 1996 and the book reflects these changes like the wording used for the credit cards from credit cards become more popular to credit cards can now be used. The discussion on the intensive English programs is more generic and therefore offers more possibilities to the readers. I would highly recommend distributing this manual to newcomers. Reading Hello USA would certainly prevent many puzzling and anxious moments to newcomers to the US.
Rating: Summary: Hello! USA is both easy to read and packed with information. Review: Hello! USA tells all about American life -- for example, how to find a home, register your child in school, learn English, choose a good doctor, buy or rent a car -- even how to get the right insurance. Here is what my readers like about Hello! USA. 1) The English is easy to read and understand. 2)The book has lots of maps, illustrations, and charts. For example, our maps show the major cities -- their distances and climates. The charts show our dollar bills and coins, clothes sizes -- even tipping customs. 3) Some pages tell you the exact words to say -- for example, when you are introducing yourself at a party or opening a bank account. 4) Every chapter has a "Words to Know" section. Each section explains common American expressions that even native English speakers might not know -- such as "overdraft protection" or "call forwarding." 5) The book is a convenient size, so you can carry it around with you wherever you go. Many international families helped me write the book. They told me what problems they had when they first came here and how these problems could have been avoided with the right information. As a result, I explain what to do -- and what not to do -- in everyday situations. Hello! USA is useful for a year or more after you get here. To find out what is in each chapter, go to our website: www.hellousa.com If you read the book and have some suggestions, let me know. I'd like to hear from you.

Rating: Summary: The best of its kind Review: I gave Hello! USA to a friend who came here from France with her husband and a little baby. She has been in the United States before, but just to visit. She kept telling me how much she loves this book and how much it has helped her. My friend's English is not that good, but she said she understood almost everything in the book. I think this book is a wonderful gift for anyone coming here to live.
