Rating: Summary: A cute book. Review: I liked this book. It's a Readers Digest kind of trip aroundthe world. Amusing and cute.
Rating: Summary: Great vacation book Review: I read One Year Off in two sittings on vacation in Hawaii, and I'm not a very patient reader. Then I gave the book to my wife and two daughters (ages 11 and 21) and they enjoyed it too. Highly recommended- even if you're not planning to make a round-the-world trip.
Rating: Summary: The adventure to end all adventures! Review: I read this book in record time, it was that compelling. The Cohens undertook their marathon journey without knowing exactly what would be in store for them from day to day. They should be held in high esteem for even attempting it with three young children! The trip didn't always go smoothly, but that made the book even harder to put down. I'd really recommend reading it, especially if you think that traveling with children is a chore - you'll appreciate David & Devi's achievements all the more! It's written very well and the author holds the reader's attention with his detailed accounts of the places they visited. I, for one, am looking forward to his next trip - if there is to be one!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Lessons for Life! Review: I read this book years ago and continue to share it with friends and family members. It is a lovely mix of family stories and world travel. I particularly like the lessons it teaches us about how important life is. We only go around once so we better make it good.

Rating: Summary: I want to be their nanny! Review: I recently grabbed this book at the Boston Airport because of its colorful cover. I loved it! Stories from Turkey, Laos, India only made me want to sell my car and use the money to travel to these countries. But I also wanted to know more about their nanny from Guatamala. Why didn't they go to her homeland? Before I make the big decision to sell my car, I just want to know one thing...how is the family after a year back in U.S. Did the kids think it was well worth the experience. I hope so.
Rating: Summary: This isn't your typical family travelogue Review: It's not only impressive that Cohen took his family around the world, but also that he picked some of the most challenging locales. Visiting Laos and Cambodia, driving through India and crossing the Australian desert is not exactly the average family vacation. This book should inspire any family -- or anyone at all -- to get off the beaten path, really explore and create an authentic travel experience.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining book! Review: My husband and I both enjoyed this book and hope to someday take an extended trip with our three children. The anecdotes and mishaps were described in ways that made me laugh out loud at times. I highly recommend this book to anyone raising a family and wanting to escape the pressures of family life in the 90s. I will take the advice of other reviewers and read it out loud to our kids.
Rating: Summary: This book is like a plane full of kids. Review: My kids are grown so this book was a real turnoff. It's like being forced to listen to a guy on a cell phone tell cute stories about his kids while you just want to read your paper in peace. Yes, the kids are adorable which is why Cohen's relatives must have loved these e-mails. I didn't though. I don't know these people and they sure seem shallow and materialistic through and through.
Rating: Summary: The Academy Class review Review: My review of One Year Off is offered to those of you in the teaching profession as a way incorporate something new and exciting into the classroom literature. I work with "at-risk" students and at the risk of trying to engage them, I selected this book to envelope the minds of these bright, but busy students to venture on a journey with the Cohens around the world. I spent the first five months of school working on a roots report with the class. This report involved each student studying a country where their ancestors were from and compiling months worth of information. As a culminating project, we began to read this novel and learn even more about every country that we studied for our roots report. However, this new information took us to more exciting places to travel and visit. I found the students to be intrigued at the very same moment Kara and Willie were, as well as protective of Lucas as they read with wonder what would happen next. I also pulled my vocabulary lists from this book for several weeks. Although the vocabulary was very difficult for the 4th and 5th graders, it challenged them and developed skills such as using context clues and finding anologies on a regular basis. Overall, I have chosen to travel the Cohen's route from Paris, France through Italy this summer. It is a good travel guide as well. Thank you for sharing your exciting lives with others.
